P.S. I also saw the sharp Galapagos readers... look nice but the larger screen is quite heavy... felt like 2kg... They did have assistants trying to explain to people how the product works...

wow nice to see this attracted some members living in Japan! nice to meet everyone.
Wow I went to yodobashi umeda earlier this week but no reader, yet, I'll try today, see if I can confirm some things.
@hidari: yes the galapagos is quite heavy. I would never consider buying it as an ereader. Even iPad seems relatively lighter than that, regarding the size.

The new ebook store looks good. There's a book about life with tweeter for only 105 yen, Can't believe that price but I can't imagine buying that book any way

came back to report, sir!

yodobashi camera umeda already has the unit. storefront, back-to-back with galapagos.
Been to sony center too, they (of course) has it too.

UI(Menu), Keyboard settings is japanese and english only.
Dictionary is en-ja and oxford american dictionary only.
Turn page gesture has different settings for tategaki (top to bottom) books and yokogaki (right-left or left-right) books. Perfectly make sense since you read japanese books right to left, while it is the other way around for other countries.
That's all the differences I spot.

People are looking but some just firstly curious then went off saying "ah denshi jisho ka..", "oh it's just a electronic dictionary", which in Japan, lots of similar products exists in market. And some are flocking and touching and stuff ^^

PS: first time seeing the 350. They look cheap compared to 650.. --"

Hi, guys! I have a little question for you: is it possible to change the UI/menus from japanese to english in the japanese PRS-350? I don't care about the diccionaries, but using such a nice gadget in a language I don't understand would be a pain in the behind...

Those covers look nice. I love the variety of colors they have. By the way anyone know what this is?

Finally, I was able to see a Pearl screen for the first time. Must say it is sharper than my PB 360. Although the UI is in Japanese, if one is used to eink devices, one can work around most of the menu. They had a Dickens book on there and I was able to compare the fonts with my Pb 360. Again, the screen is impressive but not enough to give up my newly acquired 360 or the functionality.

I do hope they catch on in Japan. It would behoove Sony to market it as a Manga reader...then they would sell their reader in droves....I assume they will try that with their Daily edition. Manga is 99 percent in black and white so no need to market a colour reader...but who knows what Sony thinks....
That is actually a better display than any I have seen in the USA. We too have clueless retailers and sales staff.

Not entirely -- Best Buy is an e-reader mess, but Borders isn't too bad.
