I'm very new to the ereader community and recently got a Kobo Forma. I'm absolutely shocked by how few languages Kobo supports and even more shocked by how restrictive they are in allowing custom ones to be installed.
I figured out the disguise method for installing additional dictionaries but can anyone tell me how to stop Kobo from resetting and messing around with them? Better yet, is there a way to jailbreak the software so I don't have to put up with their bullshit and just install as many languages as I like without having to dress them up? Apologies if my questions have already been answered: I couldn't find much from a quick search. Also, sorry for my aggressive tone: just pisses me off that a corporation would try and ruin something that has so much potential; apart from those issues, I'm loving my device! |

https://pgaskin.net/dictutil/dicthtml/install.html at the file libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml (copy it manually because it is not in the file You find in Kobopatch). I imagine that You already know Kobopatch, if not it is not difficult to learn it. ps: don't be so angry with Kobo: they support the languages that they support with the dictionary (very poor for my language, that's the reason why I change it) that they give. It is not a ideal situation but with the help of some community hacker we can do a lot of thing because Kobo don't need a jailbreak. The only thing to remember is that You must apply again the patch each time that You update the firmware (they are firmware specific). Last edited by ps67; 08-17-2020 at 10:44 AM. |

Hi, I'm trying to convert the dictionary that I've downloaded from the 1st post to stardict format. All of the file that are listed on the index are kobo dictionary format right?
I try to convert them using the latest Penelope using the following syntax. Code:
python3 -m penelope -i dicthtml.zip -j kobo -f en -t en -p stardict -o en-en When I try to use the stardict file using GoldenDict apps I got nothing. When I type a word it doesn't have any definition. Just blank page. Is there anything that I need to do to fix this? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks! |

I tried adding the 2 leading spaces but the bat file wouldn't run then, so what was needed it just to delete the # sign. anyway, the bat file ran but I still see only characters when translating to Hebrew. so something is still wrong. libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml.txt |

You have provided no detailed info about what else you did to get your custom dictionary working and what went wrong after you applied the patches to your Kobo. Without this (pictures might help) I can't begin to guess what your problem is. |

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding because I'm not an Engish native speaker. What I did was uncomment this line - ReplaceString: {Offset: 54, Find: "Georgia ", Replace: "CODE2000", MustMatchLength: yes} and change this line to "yes" Dictionary text font-family/font-size/line-height: What I mean when I write that the bat flle ran fine is that it completed without any errors What I mean when saying that it's still not working is that when I translate from English to Hebrew I still see the glyphs. I cannot see Hebrew, only signs. So I only know that the word I translated is Verb/Noun/Adj. because its written in English but other than this I cant see the translation |

Are you sure the internal font name of your sideloaded font is CODE2000? My copy is Code2000 and case matters. Forget about the dictionary for a moment, can you select the sideloaded Code2000 font from the [Aa] menu to read a book in Hebrew? How exactly did you install your English-Hebrew custom dictionary? What is its filename? Is it posted in this thread somewhere? As an aside, isn't Hebrew a right-to-left language? I'm not sure what further problems that might cause? |

I downloaded the English to Hebrew dictionary posted here from Babylon, I think Owl_ posted it. from the [Aa] menu I cannot select CODE2000 font. Hebrew is indeed RTL language, but the thing is that it worked for me like until 2 months ago when suddenly my device had a factory reset and since then I don't succeed to make it work ![]() |

Opening that font in Windows shows the internal name as being Code2000
