There is one in that series ... same cat .... gets his head into a plastic bag (not the kind that you can suffocate in ....) and just walks around with it on his head for a bit ... then wanders over to his water bowl and .... hmmm .... can't drink water with a bag on my head.

And another with him letting the tap water just run on his head .... that cat is just plain hysterical. It looks like it's filmed in Japan (?) ....

I have to take Thspud the Nip Addict in for his annual today. Which is not a happy time. He goes from mellow, laid back, stoner, slacker cat to Ginzu-matic in the space it takes to try and place him in the carrier. I have taken to grabbing him with a towel and wrapping him up like a sausage and tossing him in with a slam, just to preserve my skin.

Ginzu-matic, heh... my cats also do not like to go in the carrier. luckily for me it's not so much a question of ginzu-matic as it is "holy crap how did that cat suddenly sprout 30 extra legs, all of which are at right angles to her body, and twice as long as the width of the opening ???" it's like one of those chinese puzzles.

further complicating the problem is trying to get the second cat inside without letting the first one escape (and go to ground underneath the shower basin, or somewhere equally inaccessible to humans).

I remember when, as a child, we had to take our cat to the vet for the very first time. We got him quite happily into his basket/woven kitty transporter and carried him to the car and put him in the back, as he happily curled up and dozed. About three quarters of the way, this strange unnatural, unholy sound welled up from the back of the car and built and built and built until it felt nearly deafening. At which point his basket seemed to become possessed by poltergiest demon bent on combining break-dancing, fractal movements and the study of levitating chaotic pendulums into a new dance fad.

I still have no idea how he knew we were going to have him "seen to".

Interestingly, when the vet saw him, I'm told, the first thing the vet said was "my, he'd make a beautiful pair of mittens", at which point our cat's ears promptly when flat, his hair stood on end and he started backing away from the vet. Problem was he was on a stainless steel inspection table at the time, and was promptly left clinging to the edge (somehow, we have no idea how) by his claws.

Hmmm. He had that effect on the family a lot of the time.

Actually, quite a lot of cats I've encountered seem to have that effect on me. I'm sure they'd be much more successful masters of the universe if only their forward planning skills where a touch better.

I love Maru!! That site is now bookmarked. I wish I read Japanese .... I'd volunteer to help the owner with his/her English translations.

I bought heavy duty gloves that go high up on my arms. I think they are for handling burning logs or something.

The solution to that, given that your place is not huge .... they have these great collapsible animal carriers. You only put them up when you need them. Get two and then you don't have that problem anymore. Plus, when collapsed, they'll probably take up less space combined than your current carrier.

true, but then i would have to *carry* two carriers, whereas now i just have to stagger along under *one*. the storage is not the real problem, since i take the door off the front when not using it and stick it under the bed, and bast spends a significant portion of the day sleeping in it ( it's ironic how much she loves that thing as long as it stays under the bed).

actually i have A System for getting them into it. you could almost say i've developped it into a science. when possible, i take it out and put it in the living room several days ahead of time, so they have time to get used to the idea. that, at the crucial moment, when they suspect nothing, i very casually close the bathroom door and the bedroom door, and then grab the first one and stuff her inside. then i chase down the second one (who has caught on by now, and is invariably tearing around the room and dashing under furniture and such, but has nowhere to hide since i've closed off the rooms with inaccessible hidey holes) and try to keep the first one inside while shoving the second one in with her. this part is a LOT easier if i have a friend to help me, there's only so much you can do with two hands. the last two times it went without a hitch, although it is rather heartbreaking to see them pressing their faces to the wire door and sticking their paws out through it in an attempt to escape.

Who, me? I don't have a problem with boxes! That must be some other cat you're thinking of.

pshrynk, I think you might have a customer here. What's your billing rate for cats with addictive behaviors?
