I'm about to take myself and my cold back to bed. I've got no energy left at all.

I'm glad that you can postpone that ridiculously unnecessary inspection, Ricky. And I'm sorry that Neko also feels unwell.

Neko, you're disrupting the waves. Stop that. Or I will have to come over there and hover.

Yes, it means I may actually pass this inspection.

It's worse than having the pickiest relative come to visit. This is an housekeeping inspection, and if you don't pass, they kill your children.

Sad, but true.

Ricky - have i understand that right? That all this inspection will prove, effectively, is that you can get your house tidy in time for an inspection? No checking that the cats are healthy in mind and body, and the environment's safe/suitable(*) - both of which would make sense if they are "concerned"(**) the cats' wellbeing may be at risk

(* Which does not equate to a tidy house - a house can be messy and have no threats to a cat, or spotless and have cables and poisonous plants all over)
(** As opposed to, say, being 'orrible little jobsworths who can't keep there nose out of other people's business)

Colds & flus. Ugh. Just getting over something, and still struggling to shift a nasty cough I've had for a month. Sympathies to all those suffering. (I'm a curl up and die sort of person when not feeling well!)

aw ! you too have my deepest, sincerest sympathies.

try thyme (if the cough is in your chest), lemon, ginger and honey infusions. and keep warm. wear a scarf, and some warm socks (do you want me to send hugo and lefty ? they are wool, then again they are not the most reliable footwear you could hope for...). get lots of rest. a good time to catch up on your reading, perhaps. i hope you feel better soon.

Nope ... you have it right. The person they send is supposed to "search the house and count the number of cats and match them to the photos" I was forced to send in last year.

Now, naturally, the cats resist this process, and pretty much cannot be found when anyone is in the house that they do not trust. So, since the inspector cannot actually count or identify the cats, he or they makes due by making sure they can't find anything wrong with the housekeeping. And, believe me, they WANT to find something wrong.

They don't generally send anyone who actually knows anything about cats (or dogs). Certainly not anyone who knows more about them than I do. I've been rescuing sick and handicapped cats for almost twenty years now, so I know one hell of a lot about providing for their care. Beyond that, there are no plants in the house at all (not just because some may be harmful, but taking care of indoor plants ... on top of taking care of 19 cats and 2 dogs .... more than I can do). I have covered all of the electrical outlets for their safety ... built a stove cover (same reason) .... built them a special porch .... but then, these are all things they saw on their first search/inspection.

I mean .... if it is one thing the idiots who run this town (and all of my close neighbors, who I know and actually like) know is that I am psychotic about the care and welfare of my animals.

So, yes .... what it boils down to is every six months they walk into my house and "inspect" my housekeeping. The cats all hide (even the friendly ones for some reason ... they seem to know that these people are not people "mommy" likes), and if they actually do SEE any .... they make comments like ... "Another black cat, another black cat ... ANOTHER black cat?? How are we supposed to tell which one is which??"

Hey, I can tell them apart instantly, but I'm not doing their goddam jobs for them. They actually had the gall to ask that I "round up" all the cats in one room so they could count them. I told them that I would be happy to do that .... but that I estimated it would take me at least ten hours, and I would be billing the town at $500 an hour. That shut them up.

And yes ... if I fail the "inspection" then they take my babies (most of whom are considered "unadoptable") to the kill shelter and euthanize them. Ain't going to happen.

But .... at this moment, my feet and legs are KILLING me. All that up and down on ladders the past two days ... taking down the drapes to wash them .... washing the upholstered pieces (I did the upholstery in a way that lets me pull it off .... I learned the trick working in a furniture factory back in college), that's about 30 loads of laundry all totaled. Then, I've got a bazillion projects going ... and work .... eeesh.

Why is it I always start ranting in this thread???

trying to keep Madame Z's most beautiful pinwheel from sending me into an epileptic fit. Between her and Pshrynks' weirdo umbrella llama, my eyes are rolling in my head.
