One occupational hazard of lecturing is the common cold. Usually I catch a cold every autumn. It's rather later than usual this year. To judge by the volume levels of the coughing in the lecture halls, it's a rather severe cold this year.
Tomorrow I shall make chicken soup and see if I can persuade it to go away.
I hate colds. Hate, hate, HATE colds. I hope you feel better soon. I'm headed off to bed as soon as possible tonight. I got so much done today, but there is still so much more to do before the inspection/search on Monday.

I must have done ten loads of laundry today ... built some small shelves for the kitchen (will paint them tomorrow), cleaned a fair amount of the floor ... painted some lamps ...

My back and feet are killing me. Still, it's better than having a cold.

I hope it shifts soon.

Day and night nurse capsules are quite effective, if you don't mind taking drugs for it. And half the people at work, and at least one doctor I've seen, swear by vast amounts of vitamin c and zinc.

Ditto on ginger and garlic, and hot pepper (chili, not black pepper berries) can help too. I hope you feel better soon!

You guys know that there is a milder form of Vicks out there now for babies?? You can find it in the baby food section of most grocery stores.

It's got lavender and a bunch of other nice stuff. Still helps open you up and soothe your nose ... but not as strong or burny.

I would really be careful of the 'new' products with all those additives. I just don't trust them......but then again, I"m very old and set in my ways.

Right now, back from dinner where I sat next to a flute player (who despises the term "flautist") contracted to the play "Wicked". We had a fascinating conversation about music, the book Musicophilia I'm reading, religion and politics. She previously toured with The Lion King. A nice night! I like this city.

Tonight, raclette (with a sticky lemon-syrup cake and icecream for dessert). Also, a lovely, local, sweet, white port we found at the farmer's markets today.

Right now though, I'm about to get in the spa again, with a nice, tall Zany Carter Deluxe.

Cheers,

I slept for 11 hours, and I'm now drinking lemon, honey and ginger.
I've also anointed byself with Vicks vaporub. I do feel better than I did last night.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

Good luck with the cleaning and the painting, Ricky. I hope that the unnecessary and intrusive inspection goes well.

excellent choice of beverage, patricia ; that's my mixture of choice when i am sick / trying to avoid getting sick. i hope it helps. wear a scarf to keep your throat and chest warm as well. oh, if your cold is in your chest, you can add thyme to that mixture ; it's good for bronchial ailments.

with a little luck by tomorrow you'll be back in olympic form.

Having a little breakfast. Tons to do today .... more cleaning of floors, and I have to paint the kitchen shelves and install them. (There are only two ... I built them to fit into the kitchen window .... it will make it easier for the cats to sit up there without knocking things off, so it shouldn't take all that much time ...).

And, then I've got 10 loads of wash to do today, and I'm starting on some of the upholstery work. So, you won't hear a lot of me for the next few hours.

And, DG .... the milder Vicks is made by Vicks with all natural herbs. I had a chance to try some the other day ... it is ever so lovely smelling.

Glad you're starting to feel better Patricia

Ricky - that Vicks sounds nice - will have to look out for it.

I've just finished blasting e-mails at a few publishers asking them about books as ebooks.

Feel better soon, Patricia!!

Laundry day, eternal laundry day. Every weekend since I was 10 yrs old. When I win the lottery, I'm having them sent out every week!

In between, working on a jewelry project and reading in fits and starts. The December Asimov's has been very hard. I haven't really understood the stories. They seem sort of shallow. Or maybe I'm looking too hard trying to find depth that isn't really there. Anyway, I'm gonna finish it up and go back to Behemoth.

I like ginseng tea when I feel worn out, but for colds, give me drugs. I have very mild asthma, but just a little sniffly cold turns into pneumonia overnight. I hit back hard and fast with corticosteroids and antibiotics, and treat the symptoms with antihistamines and decongestants. Not recommended for everybody, just saying that's the only thing that keeps a runny nose from turning into pneumonia in my own case. I'm a walking chemical buzz for a week.

I'm puzzling over a Gandhi question that has bothered me for some time only this time it has stopped me dead in my tracks and I'm hardly able to think about or do anything else. I've spent all morning searching, reading, and emailing people I don't even know asking for help. It's interfering with my Vera story writing. And I even missed breakfast! So what's for lunch?
