Quorn is a micro-protein made from edible fungus, according to Wikipedia. It's mainly used as a meat substitute - I use it partly because it lets my hubby pretend there's meat in the pie, but also because I'm weird and like the texture (it can look like meat, but the texture is very different. And thankfully nothing like tofu, which apart from in Cauldron Foods sausages tends to make me heave). It's also very good at absorbing flavours. And it's high protein, low calory.
It's not neccesary for the pie - it would work equally well with decent mushrooms or waxy (not floury) potatoes instead. |

Oh, and despite what that article says, I have been reliably informed that it tastes nothing like the meat it gets formed to look like!

Yup - it's an utterly vile looking white margarine, but it seems to make the pastry lighter and nicer than using all butter.
Thinking about it, I've had stir-fried tofu once, which wasn't too bad - it didn't have the rubbery consistency I really dislike. |

I've just made and eaten a cous-cous with a chicken and vegetable tagine. The dish-washing awaits.

I'm out of Talisker, Macallan, and any other brand of the drink that I can cause outrage with just by giving it an extra vowel.
I do, however, have some Zany Carter Deluxe ingredients, surprisingly enough. Righto, Eric, fair enough but you should note that everyone's allowed just one of those, okay? ![]() Cheers, Marc |

Tonight's menu is Stew - potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, chicken, all in a tomato sauce. Served with Big House Red wine.... Simple food for simple tastes.....

I am doing the happy dance .....
I had assumed that refinishing all of the doors in my house would be too big of a chore for me to tackle by myself. However .... today I discovered two products that are making it ridiculously easy for me to do. Just a few minutes each day, wipe this stuff on, then wipe the other stuff on .... and BINGO .... new looking doors with a weather proof finish. And .... instead of spending between $3,000 to $5,000 plus the cost of stain and finish .... I spend all of $128.00 and do it myself. Happy dance ... happy dance!!! ![]() |

I am about to go electro-mulch many fallen, golden cane palm fronds, and then climb up onto a 6' brick fence with my Fiskars "Pruning Wand" to trim away at some of the neighbour's enthusiastic bamboo and bougainvillea (which will also be mulched and chucked on the garden). Then I will wash off with a swim in the pool.
Cheers, Marc |

Homer Formby's Furniture Refinisher and Homer Formby's Tung Oil Finish. I'm going to post a picture in the next few days of a side by side comparison of one of my most worn out doors.
I completely coated one set of double doors today before I realized that I really should have grabbed my camera for a before and after (and maybe a during) photo. This stuff is really miraculous!!! Looooove it. Still doing the happy dance!! ![]() |
