Ordering supplies so I can give framing my finished cross stitch projects a try. I ordered 3mm thick foam board, pins, a big cutting mat, scalpel knife and a metal ruler. I need to measure the project I want to start with to order the frame. That I'll do later this weekend.

Well, that escalated quickly.
My sister used to read a lot up until she started university. Since then she's always said that she has to read so much for uni and later work that she doesn't want to read at home anymore. On Tuesday she went on vacation, for the first time on her own, and she had to be at the airport 3 hours before take off. She was complaining about the long wait so I suggested she buy a book at the airport. She didn't really react to that. On Tuesday afternoon I get a phone call that she's at the airport looking at books and asks my help picking one. Since our taste is fiction is very different I used Goodreads to help her pick not one but two books. Last night she messaged me that she has finished the first book. This morning she messaged me if, when she gets back next week, I can help her pick out an ereader. I'll probably have her try out the two I have, a Kobo Libra Color and a Boox Pocket to see if she wants a classic sized ereader or a small one. |

Yay!!! We have another convert!!! I agree about being too busy to read while doing (whatever the project is) but it's awfully nice to have a Kindle (in my case) that has a backlog of so many books I'll be glad to read when there is time!

We'll see. I have an old Kindle she can use, but we will have to have a talk about about not being able to download Kindle books anymore. So she'll have to decide whether she want something easy to use, but can't back up or whether she wants an ereader that can handle ePubs and have back ups of your books. If the latter is the case I expect I'll end up to be her librarian; I'll set up a portable Calibre library for her and I'll make sure the books she buys will be backed up.

Last year, the weekend after Halloween the neighbourhood organized a route for kids to go by houses. We missed the memo until, in the days leading up to the event, various neighours started to decorate their houses. On the day itself we were away, when we got back it was nearly over but the neighbourhood went all out. There were house decorated very simple, but others had music or sound effect, one even had a smoke machine.
We had been thinking of joining in with the fun. Yesterday the organizers posted on Facebook that parents can sign up their kids and people can sign up their house for kids to come by. The organization provides candy and you can even borrow decorations from them. However, you can expect 400 kids to come by! So my sister and I decided against signing up, but we'll be decorating our front window and front yard. I already got a couple of things for my own dormer window in the attic. And I've got a couple of balls of yarn and googly eyes to make ghosts to hang from a string. And we'll probably take a walk around the neighbourhood to look at all the decorations. |

Researching which photo album printing company in the Netherlands prints the best photo albums.
My parents have a lot of photos from their wedding, but my mother never put them together in a photo album. After recently digitizing one of my grandparents photo albums I already promised my mother to digitize their wedding photos. This morning I was thinking it would be nice to have them printed into an album as a Christmas gift. My parents always have difficulty thinking of things we can give them for Christmas, and it's not helped by the fact my father's birthday is two weeks after Christmas and my mother's is early February. I asked my sister to borrow the photos when she goes to visit my parents tomorrow. That way I have a bit of time to digitize them, sort them and decide which will go into the album and in what order. I'll see if my sister wants to help decide which we want to use and the order and lay out of the album or if she just wants to contribute money for the printing. |
