![]() I'm decompressing. I'd really like a (largish!) glass of wine, but I'm still recuperating from a very nasty cold and alcohol is not indicated. I wish there was some way to save this stress until I was physiologically prepared to deal with it properly. |

Waiting for the bathroom to warm up a bit before going to take a shower. After that I'm going to the store to get some fresh bread rolls and anything else that takes my fancy. It's going to be another rainy day, ideal for reading and maybe some online retail therapy.

I'm sitting here slightly shaking.
Just over a month ago the court was to decide *something* in our current Family Thing court case. But the only thing that was decided was that the decision was to be postponed by half a year. Just now my mother called that she got a call from our lawyer. The judge has, unexpectedly, passed a judgement. In our favour. My parents can buy the house for the price my uncle offered it originally for (since then my father has offered to pay up to 100k more). Our lawyer didn't know the details yet. She got a phonecall from my aunt's lawyer, who will also email all the documents to her, and she'll email them to my parents. Not just that, but in June/July last year we had a agreement with my uncle of buying it, which, when the papers were ready to be signed, my uncle suddenly decided he wouldn't do anyway (blaming it on my aunt for an invalid reason). The judge has given us a chance to give all the documents to the court so they would rule about that, too. But we're not going to do that. It would take time, money and stress. Only to be able to have the courts tell us our uncle was in the wrong. My uncle can appeal, a cassation. However, he would not only need to hire a special, very expensive lawyer, he would also have to pay the court thousands of euros to start that appeal/cassation. And iirc they wouldn't look at the verdict, but only look if the previous judge has made any mistakes. I'm sitting here shaking. I haven't got any booze to celebrate. So I'm going to have some iced tea and a garlic bread to celebrate (the on-park store is closed and I'm not trusting myself enough atm to cycle two miles to the nearest supermarket). My sister is coming over on Saturday and we have planned to go visit a nearby town. We're going to celebrate then. But first: I have to take the bell off my bicycle. It seems a squirrel has discovered it this morning and regularly rings it now. |

I don't know any of the details in your Family Thing, but this was so nice to read this morning. It's just wonderful news for you and yours!

Hearing about the squirrel and the bike bell makes me think of our cat. She loves standing on her hind legs with her front paws over the top of a cardboard box, sharpening her claws. And of course this is in my bedroom at 5:30 in the morning!

WOW!!!! HOORAY!!!! How many YEARS now? Oh, you guys must be over the moon. I suggest you peddle your ass to the store (or better yet, find someone else to do that!) and get a bottle of whatever type of hooch you all enjoy, close down the store for the day and enjoy the crap out of it. And the squirrel? You gotta video that before you take his toy away. That's the cutest thing I've read in days. :-) Congrats, kiddo. I'm really pleased for you. And I hope your uncle gets SLAMMED with the court costs, too! Hitch |

I cannot conceive of what seems like either an estate dispute or a contract dispute went on for SO LONG. I wonder if it is something unique to your legal system.
I routinely manage housing cases with full settlements in less than 2-3 months. Go figure. Either way SUPER happy for you guys! I hope you get damages from him - all of the legal fees seem like they would be enough to buy the house a few times over! |

I'm on vacation, so on my own until my sister visits on Saturday. I hardly ever do hooch. But when I go in town tomorrow or Friday, whenever it's dry for a couple of hours, I might get some. All money claim, both ours and my uncle's have been turned down by court. Mind you, we wouldn't get it even if it was granted; my uncle simply hasn't got that type of money (which is why we hope he won't start an appeal, just starting is costs around €10000). Quote:
It's a complicated case, or rather, cases. First, did he sell it legally to someone else when he has already promised to sell it to my father if he could find the money before a deadline. Then what did my grandmother, with Alzheimers, really want for her children. After she died it also became about the will. And lets not forget the whole thing about my uncle's conservatorship: did the judge oversee it properly and why won't he hand over his administration (we now know, from the bits he did give, that he used my grandmother's money for his own gain, such as insurances and sex dating sites). So now we're six years on, having spend a lot of money and we're at the same point and same sales price. What a waste of time and money. About the squirrel. I tried taking off the bell with the screwdriver on my Swiss army knife, but it was too tight. Since then it's been quiet. If the playful squirrel comes back I'll try to film it, though they are very skittish. After that I'll tie my bandana around it to it can't ping anymore. |

I still can't believe what has happened this week.
In other news my uncle's children cancelled on the cousin get together this Sunday. I wonder why.... The cousin organizing it decided to cancel it altogether, since it'll be wet and windy, possibly stormy. The kids can't go play outside and that's one of the reasons we chose this location (also we often went there with our grandparents). I'm fairly sure there won't be much contact anymore between my uncle side of the family and the rest of us. I'm careful not to be too happy. Up until now my uncle decided to appeal each time we won. We'll know for sure in December (as if that isn't a stressful enough month as it is). If the sale does go through I expect my uncle to have some ridiculous demands, as he had in the past. I expect negotiations to take a while. This morning I plan to cycle to the nearest town and supermarket. I brought my table grill/tepanyaki with me and I plan to use it tonight (marinated pieces of chicken, mushrooms, paprika, baguette and some sauces) whilst watching something fun. I need a couple of things to make that happen. I also want to go by the pet store and see if they have any bird feed I can put up outside my apartment. The last time I was here the birds weren't interested it the food I put out and I didn't see any squirrels outside our cottage. Either that has changed or the animals in this section of the park are less skittish because every day it's been busy outside my accommodation. The squirrel only pinged my bicycle bell once yesterday. Tomorrow my sister is going to pick me up around 11am and we're going to a bigger town. Have a celebratory lunch and do some shopping. Depending on how long we take she may or may not come to the park with me afterwards. Just to be sure I'm making a small cake today. |

Baking a small cake. Nothing fancy, just a regular cake. But I have some blueberries and whipped cream to go with it.
