Hi there,

I just received my Hisense A5 and am unable to connect to my home WIFI. Yours is the only post I've found with the same issue. Could you please step me through how you fixed this?(I'm not very techy).

be sure your wifi network is 2.4Ghz, as the hisense a5 does not support the 5Ghz

Hi, Whenever I update the phone, all the icons I aded to the screen that were links to pages disappear and I have to start from scratch. Nothing happens to app icons or system icons. Anyone with a similar problem? Is there any way to prevent it? I tried locking the screen layout for the time of updating the phone but it didn't help.

Thank you - my Wifi has both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. I tried disabling the 5ghz but still no luck.

Found a person on this forum with the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/eink/commen...rks_dont_work/

" I'm having trouble connecting to some wifi networks. I can't connect to my home (it doesn't rename for 5GHz, I've just created a 2G guest Network and I can't connect to that! Though I can connect to various work networks and my hotspot."

I'm also able to connect to phone hotspot and to public wifi networks no problem.

I would probably change my router, since my router is much cheaper than A5, but it's just me.

Hi all,

The Hisense A5 Pro and Pro Color is almost ready to ship. Quite tempting, the color one at least. Any thoughts?

I have no doubts that the A5 Pro will be a great device because I am already satisfied with my regular A5. The specs announced for the A5 Pro just mean it would be that much better.

As for the colour models, I would wait and see. Sometimes devices which look good in short, promotional videos don't function quite as well in everyday, real world circumstances. So I would wait until there are some third party reviews out there, preferably not from people trying to sell the devices.

For what i am concerned, already the original A5 is the first smartphone in 10 years that (almost) delivers what i primarily care about: Insanely long runtime combined with visually effortless screen time for distraction free reading even outdoors at a comparably low price. At that price, I ordered two replacement units, just in case the current one ever breaks or gets stolen.

I couldn't care less about the pale color addition and enhanced specs of the newer A5 variants. I would be much more interested if it were equipped with a removable battery and an unlocked bootloader for easier OS hacking, instead.

Lock screen settings keeps crashing

Hey all,

Just received my A5 - does anyone know how I can change the lock screen wallpaper? Every time I go to Settings -> Lock screen, desktop, & wallpaper -> Lock Screen, the settings app crashes.

Also, isn't the e-ink button on the left side supposed to refresh the screen? Nothing happens when I press mine - is there a setting to change this behavior?

Thanks!

Yes, in settings > buttons > eink button

You can choose between a number of functions, I've set mine to:
1 click: back
2 clicks: toggle front light on/off

Unfortunately these settings are in Chinese

There's a helpful post somewhere in this thread that translates all the options.

Anyone else noticing poor screen performance in strong sunlight?

My A5 screen becomes very mottled only with bright direct sunshine. Like heavy ghosting. It disappears if I change app, then back again (which I imagine triggers a full refresh).

I haven't had this on any of my previous readers (Kindle/Pocketbook/Onyx). Googling around, early e-readers had this issue and it's been a problem on the new Onyx Nova 2 which they've fixed via a software update.

Thankfully I live in England, so it will be a rare occurrence.

To pin a screenshot to the lockscreen: navigate to something you would like to take a screenshot of -> tap on the symbol which looks like a rectangle with a line under it at the bottom of your screen -> tap on "pin to screenshot" -> you're done.

To view/remove any screenshots which are pinned to the lockscreen: with one finger, swipe upwards when you are on your homescreen -> view/delete any screenshots or long press on any screenshots for some other options -> with one finger, swipe down to return to your homescreen.

I think you can have up to three screenshots (or was it 5) pinned to your lockscreen and you can cycle through them when in sleep mode by a double press of the eink button.

Not sure why your phone is crashing when you go into the Lockscreen area in Settings. Mine doesn't do that.

I have the same issues. Lock screen settings causes a crash and the eink button doesn't do anything. Also, in settings there is no option to select what the eink button does. I guess it's a bug with the CECT global ROM...

Followup replies by people who successfully managed to apply this rooting procedure are very promising. Only thing missing for cautious users to actually perform this step is to have a way to undo all this in case of unforeseen errors.

While, in theory, it is well known from where the current firmware could be downloaded from, in practice this requires to be registered on the chinese forum where it is available. Apparently this requires a mainland china phone number and is thus rather impossible.

Unfortunately nobody with proper access to these files has been able to make them available on any western download platform. In case someone here does have access and would be inclined to help with this, here is the URL of the relevant forum posting:

https://fans.hisense.com/thread-171079-1-1.html

https://translate.google.com/transla...71079-1-1.html

Anybody?

EDIT: In the meantime, some generous soul at xda-developers provided the latest firmware version L1657.6.09.06.00 at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JBz...2cc9spp_dxF_WX and its MD5SUM is 61be6ef407781d885df4715de73a97f0
