Not very likely to be possible without a massive amount of code modification. Why not use Books with Downloaded as the filter and Author as the sort?

There are many pages of authors, and only a couple of pages of downloaded books. I usually only have downloaded/sideloaded books on the device.

I'm going to try a request in the Kobo Utilities plugin.

I just archive all my Kobo purchases, after downloading them and adding them to Calibre. This way they don't show up on my Kobos. I sideload everything.

Why would you have your device connected to a Kobo account at all if you sideload everything? There's no reason to ever sync except to get dictionaries and firmware updates.

There was no sideloaded mode when I bought my two latest Kobos; they had to be registered to use them. I just haven't bothered to change this later. Besides, I kind of like the homepage, even though I rarely use it.

When you use the Downloaded filter in Books, that would only show you those couple of pages of books. Sort by author would then sort those 10-20 books being generous and translating a "couple of pages" to 2-4 pages. You are unlikely to have that many duplicate authors in that limited number of books.

Why not archives those many pages books that you don't have downloaded? Use Books ... menu to Manage books and remove from there or do it from the web page.

As for a request in the Kobo Utilities plugin? What you are going to ask for? The ability to archive a purchased book?

I guess maybe I don't know what the term "downloaded books" means. I don't see how moving books into your Kobo archive helps when those books would all be on your device anyway via sideloading, thus giving you a long list when trying to find a particular book. If the book is on your device, does that not count as a "downloaded book"?

If I didn't archive them, I'd have duplicate titles on my devices.

Also I don't sideload all my purchases at once, but only a part of them; the rest are waiting for their time in Calibre.

Your definition of "many" is different then mine. I am already using the downloaded filter.

That may work. So I archive on the website, sync, and all the non downloaded authors will be gone?

I made the request similar to how I made the request here. I'm guessing that a SQL statement could achieve it, and add a button that in utilities that would do it. I'll leave it up to the utilities people as to how it get's done.

I took @John F's meaning to be that downloaded books are those that are synced from your Kobo account though the Kobo reader seems to use it as meaning books that are present on your ereader where purchased/synced or sideloaded. This basically came from his statement:
Quote:

Books that are sideloaded will not show on your Kobo after being removed. Books that are purchased and synced will unless you choose the Remove from My Books option when removing them. Those will need to be restored from the Archive using your Kobo account. Alternately you can archive them from your Kobo account and then sync your Kobo ereader.

Basically, if Purchased, Kobo Plus and Imported don't add up to Downloaded, you have books that are sourced from Kobo but are not synced/downloaded to your ereader.

My Sage shows 5 books per page. A couple of pages would mean it takes 2 pages to display those books so a grand total of 10. Hardly what I consider "many".

Or remove them on your Kobo ereader the Books option has a Manage books option in the ... menu in the upper right on the same line as Filter & Sort. You can select multiple books and remove them in one swell foop. Generally, I select all the finished books on the page and tap on the remove button. The web site used to allow selecting multiple books but that has been gone for a long time.

Yes, and I don't understand how a book can get into such a state. If you sync your books from Kobo and then delete them, they should be completely gone from the device, at least until you sync again, at which point the device would re-download the books you deleted, unless you moved them into your archive on the Kobo website, first.

I don't understand how your device can know about a book without having it downloaded, as I've never seen a book in such a state. It's either on the device, or I've deleted it, and then it's not on the device anymore.

Sheesh. The sync process will sync your new title to your ereader but it will not necessarily download the file at that time—I vaguely remember a limit of 5 automatic downloads. If I finish a book and remove it from my ereader, it still shows in my books unless I select the 2nd option (Remove from my books). So the title shows but the with Download and a fat arrow pointing down. See the attached images.

Ah, I guess I never had enough un-downloaded books for a sync to not grab all of them at once, so I was unaware of this behaviour. Thank you for the clarification.

This did not work. I selected 2 books, and picked remove. The authors showed still showed up on the author tab. And when I went back to manage, the books were still there.

AND NOW "Download" IS NOT IN THE FILTER LIST!

Which is something that programmers always say.

DNSB, do you maintain Kobo Utilities? I may be banging my head against a wall with this request.
