I set that as the minimum negative value so all I have to do is drag the bar all the way down at night.
I just figuredwhat you meant. I enabled it and now I can go as dark as I want. I got min set to -40 on the Kindle Fire. Perfect for night. Reading. My KFHD7 went super bright after the last update.

Glad its working for you. I had to fiddle a bit with lenght and thickness of the bar and the location of the bar to get it just right, but now its perfect. I have it at the top in both the phone and tablet. And I make it as long as possible, makes it easier for me to do the range easier between the percentages. I am a bit touch screen challenged.

Most tablets lowest setting is too bright for me at night, even the Nexus although its a bit better than the Fires were.

Is the Amazon version of this app the latest version? (Probably not huh?)

I just bought
Home For Christmas: A Holiday Duet for the Jessica Scott book. She's an autobuy for me. Yes, there is a kid in it, or so saith the blurb.

My Kindle Fire use to go really dim so what I did was set min brightness to around the old minimum which is pretty dark. Around -40 on the KFHD7.2

I haven't played with it on the Nexus. I never use an app unless the app has a brightness bug. I did buy the pro version just now.

Pro works great on the Kindle Fire! No licensing issues at all!

I decided to make a new Calibre library (named Undetermined) and move the new-to-me authors there. I debated doing this two years ago during The Big Culling Project and again last year during The Great Calibre Check and Reconvert Project and have been mentally kicking myself for not doing so.

Even though it's a new library it will actually streamline my process as the content will match up with the way I organize my TBR list as well as the way I store the original copies of my books in my main Digital Library folder. I put all new-to-me authors in one folder. I also do not log their books in my authors list the way I do with books I know for sure I will keep.

It will hopefully be a really quick project.

I'll second the recommendation for it as an enjoyable urban (of the old-school non-paranormal type) fantasy (I can't speak as to how romance-y it was, as that's generally not something I pay attention to unless it starts to interfere with the story). It's set in the 80s and involves some computer tech and it's a bit dated, but I really liked it when I bought it from Fictionwise a couple of years back.

Free from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon:

Blazing Nights by Linda Barlow, 1st in her Night Games series of f/m contemporary romances involving psychic/paranormal themes which may or may not turn out to be real instead of imaginary. Apparently this is a "new adult" romance inspired by her 1984 Jove title Bewitched.

Shakespearean actress Kate Kingsley is portraying one of the three witches in Macbeth when she playfully reads the palm of a hot stranger. But when you pretend to be a witch, you risk attracting a witch-hunter. Daniel Haggarty turns out to be a wealthy, fraud-exposing, alpha male journalist with little tolerance for Kate's psychic mother, her geeky friends, or her reincarnated cat.

While protecting her ghost-whisperer mom from the skeptical Daniel, Kate is irresistibly drawn by his dark sensuality. Soon it's no longer obvious who is practicing magic and who is under a spell.

Long Way Home by Janis Reams Hudson (orig. publ. with Zebra 2001).

Quote:
After seven years in prison, Duncan Malone has returned home to Washita, Texas, to reclaim his land that now belongs to strangers. But his homecoming isn’t a warm one; his mother lies in a catatonic state, and the residents of Washita aren’t taking well to a murderer living amongst them.

Franki Taylor is seven-months pregnant, alone, and forced to run her grandfather’s farm as he succumbs to pneumonia. So when Duncan, the farm’s former owner, comes seeking a job, Franki knows she’s in no position to turn him away. Soon, their convenient partnership turns into a budding passion they’re both powerless to resist.

But both Franki and Duncan have an enemy lurking in their midst, determined to destroy not only their love, but their very lives.

Free from Kobo (DRM-free) and from Amazon US DE:

Yours to Command by Shona Husk (Sourcebooks & Carina Press author), a SP/Space opera romance.

Quote:
He would do anything to protect her, if only she'd let him.

Corporal Sienna Jade wasn't given a choice about joining the mission to Unity. Seen as a troublemaker after reporting an assault by a senior officer, the army wanted her gone. Sienna resents the army for assigning her to Earth Ship Siren, and suspects the fleet's Unity mission will fail. But others would do anything to escape Earth ...

Alex Tariel knew his only chance to get a place on ES Siren was as a prisoner, so he stole water rations. As a former construction foreman, his skills make him a valuable prisoner on board, but still a prisoner unable to control his own life. Instead of keeping his head down, he gets involved in the fights set up for gambling privilege tokens, the only currency aboard ship among the prisoners.

Getting patched up by Corporal Jade might be the best thing that's happened to Alex on the trip so far, but becoming her ship husband puts him between her and the lieutenant who tried to kill her for kicks on Earth. While Sienna tries to keep control of her feelings for Alex, Alex would do anything to protect her, if only she'd let him.

As ES Siren faces its first crisis, a little trust and love goes a long way.
It is part of the series ES Siren, part 1 of which is also available for free, but I don't know the author:

Yours to Uncover by Mel Teshco, free at Kobo (DRM-free) and Amazon US DE.

Quote:
Is she willing to sacrifice everything to keep her secret and her lover safe?

It's the year 2202. Earth is grossly overpopulated and seriously polluted. Rita Songworth has spent half her twenty-two years trying to escape the dying planet. It's taken the last five of those years to realize making it in the hard-ass infantry is her only way out, via space transporter Earth Ship Siren.

But the journey to Unity, the new colony, isn't easy. Rita has to resist an attraction to hard, brutish prisoner, Tristan MacFallan, whose masterful hands create more than the beautiful art he's been assigned to make. His forbidden touch affects her profoundly and he sees things in her no man ever has before. But obeying Kane, her ex-lover and malicious lieutenant, who is appointed to keeping the prisoners under guard, comes at a high price. Is she willing to sacrifice everything to keep her secret and her lover safe?
Volume 3 is also free:

Yours to Desire by Denise Rossetti (Ellora's Cave author), Kobo (DRM-free) and Amazon US DE.

Quote:
A man more potent than any drug.

It's 2202 and on board ES Siren, the brilliant Doctor Lily Kwan has worked in secret to develop an antidote for the aphrodisiac rape drug, sexmeth.

She'd be overjoyed if it wasn't for an embarrassing problem: the antidote has no effect on her extraordinary reaction to Connor Madison, the Siren's tough quartermaster. Scientifically, it should be impossible, but the man's a raging fever in her blood. If a single dark glance sets Lily on fire, a kiss might kill her dead – but what a way to go!

A former gang rat from the slums of a dying world, Con came up the hard way, so when geeky Doctor Kwan tops his hit list of possible drug runners, nothing's going to save her—not her family's money, nor her clever mind.

Not even the smile in her eyes.
There are three more volumes announced by the same authors, but they seem to be about different main characters.

I picked this Xmas anthology up last year because I like Juliet Blackwell, but didn't get a chance to read it before Xmas ended and I got out of the mood for holiday romance. Anyway, I'm now back in the mood so I started it over the weekend. It's cute, and each story is a short novella, so it's easy to pick up and then put back down. Definitely worth the $0.99 price.

Love on Main Street: A Snow Creek Christmas by various authors.

Spoiler:
Where love begins on Main Street and ends happily ever after....

Christmas, the most magical season, is almost upon the small mountain town of Snow Creek. For seven couples, holiday wishes mean more than just gifts or parties. Can Snow Creek pull off its annual holiday miracle of bringing love to town?

Featuring seven original romances by New York Times and bestselling authors…

Juliet Blackwell
LGC Smith
Cecilia Gray
Adrienne Bell
Rachel Herron
Ruby Laska
Lisa Hughey

QUEEN OF HEARTS BY JULIET BLACKWELL
Serafina Rogers is not an impulsive person, but lately something’s gotten into her. She walked away from warm San Diego, her scumbag ex-fiance, and her teaching job in order to come to Snow Creek and take over her deceased aunt’s witchy supply store. Unfortunately, her hunky cowboy landlord, Joe, has other plans for the space, which hasn’t turned a profit in years. Neither Joe nor Serafina believe in magic, much less romance. But when a Yule log is tossed on the fire, Serafina begins seeing things in her aunt’s deck of cards, and Joe’s niece goes missing…they might just have to change their minds.

THE HOLIDAY SHOW BY LGC SMITH
Christy Monroe hates Christmas. The excess, the inevitable disappointments--bah. Dan Rose loves Christmas. The fun, the way his bakery smells—it’s all a little magical, especially in Snow Creek. When their first-grade daughters decide they want to be sisters, Christy and Dan had better watch out. The girls maneuver their parents into organizing the elementary school holiday show together. It doesn’t take long for Dan to make it his goal to change Christy’s mind about Christmas—and taking a chance again on love.

LET IT SNOW BY CECILIA GRAY
After losing her parents, Jessica can't bear to lose her childhood home and family bookstore, too. When they're taken from her, she has nowhere to go…except the arms of Daniel, Snow Creek's resident hero paramedic. It's not be the Christmas miracle Jessica wanted, but it might the one she needs….

SECOND CHANCES BY ADRIENNE BELL
There’s no doubt in Eileen Ledger’s mind that the last time she saw hockey superstar Paul McAlester she made the biggest mistake of her life. Only, she’s never been sure if the mistake was in kissing him, or in running away. But ten years later, Paul is back in town for Christmas, and Eileen has a second chance to make things right…as long as she can keep herself from falling in love again.

A CHRISTMAST YARN BY RACHAEL HERRON
Knitting has always served as a distraction, something that Clara can hide behind. After a significant weight loss, though, she's still not sure if she wants to be noticed. When sexy Lincoln ends up on the front porch of her yarn store, he seems to see everything clear as day. Will Clara finally be seen for her true self?

MISS BONNY'S BURIED TREASURE BY RUBY LASKA
Caroline Bonny has always known about her family curse: no Bonny daughter will ever marry until her great-great-great-grandfather's buried treasure is found. Caroline has made her peace with her life as a spinster-turned-cosmetologist, until easy-on-the-eyes schoolteacher Lance Carter comes to town determined to drown his recent breakup in holiday festivities.

ONE SILENT NIGHT BY LISA HUGHEY
Nick and Ally Carpenter split up months ago after years of infertility treatments crushed their marriage and their dreams of children.

Thanks. Added it to Scribd. Got all my holiday reads together today and went through Harlequin on Scribd and found some more.

Bargain @ $1.99 each (plus a 99 cent short story) from Hachette's Grand Central Publishing's Forever imprint (non-couponable, linkage for the lot goes to Kobo but should be matched in the standard stores, price good for Canada & US, possibly also discounted in other regions, etc.):
At least 2 of these have previously been mentioned as being on sale over the course of this year, but I ran a search on Barely A Lady and the last time someone pointed it out on on MR was in 2011, so I figure it's "new" enough as a repeat that you might want to complete the set of her discount books if you're a fan and didn't get it then (or at any other time it was on sale in the intervening years).
