The Help menu in HackBuilder contains information about each of the hacks in more detail than the names provide.

Here's a link to very good instructions on flashing:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12573

Also, don't worry too much about bricking your reader. It's a little scary the first time, but it's pretty easy to recover from. I've been doing a bunch of development, bricking it back and forth, and have recovered every time.

Done! Added the icons as one of the selectable hacks. This increases the size of the flash by about 40k, even if you don't install the new icons. That's not very big, but you can manually delete the kBookIconDiablo.png from the scripts folder after building your hacks, if you're worried about it.
will these new icons allow for showing the status of music playing while reading a book..?

Thanks,
F.

One more suggestion if you please Nogg...

How about the ability to save your selections so you can get them back just by loading in the settings file?

Good suggestion. What I do now is save a screen shot for reference.

Nogg, just out of curiosity, you mentioned that Diablo's iconset would be flashed regardless. If it's just a matter of changing the name in the xml file, there's the possibility of changing from Sony's to Diablo's icons and back at whim. Am I understanding this correctly?

One other silly question. I notice the drop-down menus for button remapping are editable. Does that mean that I can type in my own function rather than selecting the drop-down options?

Hopefully, you won't be able to brick the Reader with HackBuilder, but if it does happen, there are plenty of posts that talk about fixing it. Usually, I have to reset the device, and then plug into usb, and then reapply the firmware.

No, this is the existing menu icon hack. I just added it into HackBuilder

I've gotten that suggestion before and I knew it would be asked for. I'll put it at the top of my list, after figuring out a good fix for the joystick flip + history conflict.

Yes, if you select the Diablo Icon hack, you'll get his. If you don't, you'll get the original Reader icons.

Hm, it should not be editable. I'll have to fix that.

Ok, I've added the save/load config options in the File menu. You can save out a single configuration, load it back in, or load the default (no hacks) config.

It will also load the saved config when you start up the program.

(still working on joystick page flip + history issue)

Hey Nogg I just wanted to thank you for all the work you have done on this. When I got my reader a month and a half ago-ish figuring out how to blend the hacks together wasn't quite as straight forward as they are now thanks to you. This utility makes selecting the hacks you want pretty fool proof (as evidence that this fool can use it)! Very cool stuff!

But be warned: make sure you charge the reader before burning the firmware and make sure your Windows PC is stable as well. Someone has managed to brick his reader because his PC crashed or frozen during the firmware transfer.
