Nogg can you come up with a run.sh that would let you get a full listing of all directories on the Reader and make a text file on the memory card? If so, I could try to run it on the 505 so we can see what is going on on the inside.

That functionality already exists in the Universal Flasher, but it won't work on the 505, according to what's been said. That's the main reason we're sending the new unit to igorsk, as we're hoping he can devise a replacement for the autorun script.
If I remember correctly, the original 500 firmware allowed full directory access which made it very easy to investigate the inner workings of the device. The 505 should be fairly similar to that old structure, but it's probably going to take more work to wiggle into the system to figure out how to access the file system. My guess is that we'll have to dissect the firmware updater in order to find a way in. |

Thanks Nogg and Diablo (and all the hack writers) for this great tool. Just updated my Reader with all the posh hacks and it's quite an improvement.
Regards, Bob PS Recommend you note in the help file that the Joystick Page Flip and History hacks are (currently) mutually exclusive. Last edited by BobVA; 10-07-2007 at 09:01 AM. |

You could also add a "Copy hack to card" feature. Let the user choose a drive letter and copy the files there.

P.S. Do not use (or even install) the delete book hack if you have any collections as you could cause your reader to be stuck in an endless loop (JSWolf)
Can you explain collections? I just have a list of books on the reader, nothing is in seperate folders. I guess I don't understand this one at all (I will be reading further in the meantime)..... does this mean you can only have that one book on the reader? I don't use any cards either, I just upload books to the reader and have maybe 15 on it if that many...... I am really interested in this hack....... seeing what else is around in the mean time too. I may be to chicken to even try it........ LOL....... |

Collections are kind of a psuedo folder you can create in internal memory on the 500 (you can also do so on cards in the 505). You create them in the ConnSoft via the little "plus" (+) icon at the extreme lower left — just put the cursor where you want the collection, and click the button then name it. Collections let you do a couple of neat things like sorting the books the way you want them rather than alphabetically (great for series and "to read" lists), and you can transfer the entire collection as a unit to the Reader from the PC or vice versa (though you can't delete that way, and deleting in a collection only removes a book from the collection, not the Reader or ConnSoft). Obviously, it also allows you to have a set of shorter book lists rather than just the one giant flat one in the Books menu.

Thanks...... okay I don't do collections so this could work for me........ trying to see how this stuff installs, right now I am leary of it all, LOL........of course I never had any complaints about the way the reader worked for me as it was..... now I see there is a clock too? Most stuff I read doesn't seem to be anything that I would use anyways. but I have pages to go........

The hack builder does a lot of the work for you, it essentially creates your file set and then all you have to do is copy it to an SD card, put it in the Reader, and follow the instructions. But you're a big girl, you can decide for yourself whether you want to mess with it.

Very true and since for most parts I am happy with it just the way it is (to read books) I just see no reason to mess with it at this time. ha ha, That's okay if you want to call me chicken <G>

Nah, it took me a long time thinking about it before I did anything to mine — eventually the lure of the clock and jog-stick page turn got to be too much for me to resist.

LOL, NatCH I was just thinking, knowing me, I do have a curious side, so ya never know, I may attempt it in the future, although I always have my watch on so I know what time it is.. the thing that appealed to me is removing a book after reading it, but again I can easily come back here and plug it in and do it too........ time will tell....... you may even see me here screaming HELP if something goes wrong ;(

April, I don't think you are a chicken. If you are happy with things they way that are then that's all for the best. I have the hacks installed that I want and they work well for me. But to each his/her own for sure.
