Has the requester confirmed he's in the States (B&N access was closed in UK, yes?) and his account's credit card is still valid? I believe others have said even before B&N locked down the website downloads that the credit card had to be a valid one before books could be downloaded.

I will try this as well. I am in the states however I was getting an error about not being able to buy in my country. I went in and took the cc out and put it back and I could then buy on the nook.

If you have access to an old Windows Vista computer, you can download the old Nook for PC application from B&N Nook for PC download link. I personally find it flaky but usable on Windows 7, although I usually have to log out and log back in to pick up any newly purchased books. The Windows Store Nook app sometimes has problems with that also. I don't have a Mac, and I don't think it works for recent versions of Mac OX, but here's the Mac Nook App download link.

Thank you for trying to help me, I appreciate it very much. Out of town for work now with the MacBook I travel with, I do have an old vista laptop at home I will try with that link. I also have my original first generation nook that I plan to play around with.

You can access the ebook files from a 1st edition Nook. Just connect it to your computer with a USB cord. If you plan to use Apprentice Alf's tools, be sure to download fresh copies of the books.

Thanks for all the help, I was able to get nook for PC on my old vista desktop and downloaded my nook library to a thumb drive. I'm going to put calibre on my mac and hopefully put them all in a library there. Right now the only reading device I have is a nook glow plus, any suggestions on a device that supports multiple formats? I will go browse the forum for info on that as well...sheesh so much to learn about all this technology, Id be much happier if it would just poof itself into my ereader without having to jump thru hoops....

For e-ink ereaders, I don't think there's really a very good multi-format device. Tablets are the best choice for that, and then you can also "poof" things onto them with different apps.

If you're installing Calibre and stripping off your DRM, this one will read many formats. I did notice it mentions MOBI, but not AZW3. Don't know if that would make a difference. Calibre makes it ridiculously easy to convert from one to the other, though. Good luck! P.S. I bought my TouchLux 3 from a 3rd-party seller at Amazon. I didn't notice where you're from, but it's not available in stores in the States. |

That is what I am going to do, if Nook goes down, I will keep using my devices (I have several Nooks but not the Glowlight plus). The only difference is where I get my books from. Right now I get them all over anyway, so it won't be much of a change. Here is one tip, I *think* after rooting you can install dropbox on the Glowlightplus. Then you can put a large library of books on dropbox and download them as you need/want. I know some people seem to hate plugging in a cable these days, and that way you can have the books transferred wireless. |

Nook app for Mac doesn't seem to be able to sync or download my new books for a couple of weeks now. Anyone else had this problem?

I found a freebie on the B&N website and "bought" it. I was able to download it with Nook for PC.

Thanks. I have the Nook Study and Nook for Mac. For some reason the Nook app stopped synching but the Nook Study is still working.

Have you tried logging out and back in? I've had NOOK for PC get to the point where it goes through the motions of syncing, but doesn't actually download new titles. Logging out and in seems to fix the problem.

Nook Study may use different protocols at BN's end, they didn't discontinue it, just renamed it to Yuza or some other odd name and later spun it off to someone else. So it's more likely to keep working for awhile.
Nook for Windows has a chance to work for quite some time since they tied it to the Microsoft store. However if you want your ebooks backed up it may be wise to seek other sources aside from BN. History has shown that they would prevent you from having any access to the ebook files if they could. There are still a fair few out there providing epub versions, Kobo, Google, Baen, etc. all of which allow you to download your purchases. |
