There are two issues with that, the HD and HD+ dislike many SD card brands. As Difflugia had already replied, Sandisk is safe. But there's also the formatting of the card. It has to be just right. When I upgraded my Cyanogen version, I was unable to boot from the SD card I'd used to install Cyanogen in the first place. I had to reformat it using SDFormatter to make it work again. It's been fine since then. I also had to reformat the card I use for storage. It could read it sort of, but it was making it take several minutes to boot, occasional crashes (some during boot) and extremely slow performance. I have yet to figure out how, but reformatting the card fixed that too.

Reading all this stuff, I am so, so glad I just put Cyanogen on my Nook HD+s from the start and never bought into B&N's eBook ecosystem. The things I did buy from them are all securely backed up in Calibre with the DRM stripped.

I also find this all sad, the Nook HD+ is a great tablet. I love mine, and use it every day. Was really hoping they'd make more. The Samsung collab one is kind of crappy.

It is sad. I really liked all their earlier e-ink and tablet nooks. But the current models are disappointingly of absolutely no interest to me.

I will keep my HD+ until it fails and then pick something from another company.

So neither the NookStudy or Nook for Mac app work anymore? I had to restore stuff after a hard drive crash on my Mac and now I can't sign in to either app. I either get a "Can't retrieve Adobe login" error from Study or something about can't "download time from servers" for Nook. So is this officially the end of the road in terms of buying books from B&N to sidleload to another device via Calibre?

Do you have ADE installed? I think I remember seeing something about needing ADE with the same email address as you use with B&N to be able to use Nook Study to read. I would think Nook for Mac should work without anything else needed.

I don't think anything's changed recently, so I don't think you're out of luck. The first thing to try is just wait a while. Their servers are crap and I've had similar problems logging in that resolved themselves by waiting a few hours. If your restore carried over some old NOOK data, you might also try removing that. On a PC, there's a "Barnes & Noble" directory in the user's application data directory with "BNDesktopReader" and "NOOKstudy" directories. On the PC, deleting those directories will cause NOOK for PC and NOOK Study to ask for fresh login credentials the next time they're run.

I do not have ADE installed and have had no problems with using Nook Study on my Windows 10 netbook.

If someone does have ADE installed and the email for the Adobe ID it's authorized with is different then their B&N email, they may have trouble logging in to Nookstudy. The original version of Nookstudy required you to sign in with both. Later versions dropped the Adobe ID login, but apparently there's still something lurking in the code.

As far as I know, Nook for PC/Mac never had that issue, but they're still pretty buggy.

I'll try it again tonight. I really hope I can get this to work. I always liked buying books from B&N and the ease of getting them sideloaded to my Kobo Aura HD (which I *love*).

But if this doesn't work, where can we by the latest books from and still make this work?

I purchase my books from Amazon, import them to Calibre with some Alf assistance and converting them to ePub.

Kobo of course. Also Google Play, OmniLit & eBooks.com do ePub, or buy from Amazon and convert which is quick and easy.

I tried buying a book on Amazon last night but there was no way to download it. It wanted me to download the Kindle app for my phone and the book was there. Sorry to sound like such an idiot, but how do you download the books from Amazon?

I had the B&N process down cold, what a pita this has turned into.
