Well, most of them probably read this thread and figured it out... eventually.

Anyway, you mentioned linux so I had to say something -- it's traditional! FWIW, I think it will run through WINE.

Oh yeah. I myself gave in and installed WINE so I can run ADE and 3m Cloud. If it's necessary, it's necessary.

Barnes and Noble should just quit the internet, they suck at it.

I will not buy nor recommend anything having to do with Barnes and Noble any more. I replaced my HD+ cover April 4th of this year. The bottom right corner lock has split. I called customer service for a replacement and was informed that accessories now have a 14 day return policy for defects. I had this happen to another cover two years ago and they replaced it four months after I bought the cover. So, on top of screwing customers on ebook downloads, they have also decided to not warranty the accessories they sell.

It's not necessarily a good idea to exercise any particular right.

Heads up if your account changes...

I hope this is not too much detail....apologies if so.

I futureproofed the BN Free Friday option last week on the new website as usual (it actually looks pretty good), with no problems. Made a change to my account a couple days ago. Went shopping....

If your BN account changes for some reason, or maybe just part of the new BN websites etc., you may need to re-generate the NookStudy log. I've been on NookStudy since Feb. but it did not work this time after I changed my payment info. I had to reinstall NookStudy.

All's well now. The new Tools took it from there. (Blessings on all the apprentices!!!)

I know, I know...I'm going to have to break down & deal with ADE eventually, but I'm holding out....That, or get a Kindle.

Looks like Barnes and Noble removed NookStudy from their website. the link just gives a 404 error now: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nookstudy/index.asp, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/noresu...for-pc-and-mac, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nookst...HPStwNw-_-10:1

I think they've also removed Nook for PC. The link just leads to the Nook App for Android and iOS: http://nook.barnesandnoble.com/u/noo...-app/379003593

So no way to download a book except with a Nook device or Android or ios app? Maybe their thinking that in order to sell more Nook devices make it difficult to download any other way?

They've been gone for awhile now. I had one book purchased from B&N that could only be opened and read in their Nook Study. I bought it a few years ago but I got a refund on the book. They have some new software they originally sent me to for customer support, Yuzu, which didn't work on the book (not sure if they're still using Yuzu). I finally hunted down old copies of Nook Study and Nook for PC in case I ever need to reinstall.

It's kind of astounding that B&N removed the ability to easily back up even DRMed ebooks. I remember when I got my nook Simple Touch I backed up all their books by just connecting the device to my PC. Got to wonder who gave them cash to magically disappear those books from showing up on devices now. Once they finally bite the dust, there will be millions of people no longer able to access their nook books. If that does happen, it will have a terrible chilling effect on ebook purchases, which of course would make many publishers happy.

And that's exactly why I download every single book purchase to my PC, remove DRM and keep a few copies on various hard drives and in the cloud (my cloud, not B&N's). Especially when you're also buying from smaller book sellers, there's no guarantee any store won't close at any time, or change how you can download and read what they do have stored in the cloud for your purchases like B&N.

I just downloaded and installed NookStudy on June 28th. At the time, if you searched Bing or Google you could still download the programs from B&N. Foolishly I deleted the NookStudy installer, so if I have to reinstall to regenerate the key as mentioned by AnitainTN, I may be outta luck

You can try just deleting the appdata and associated registry keys. Or backup the Program Files folder and uninstall with RevoUninstaller.

In my experience, program binaries do not care whether or not Windows has an entry in Add/Remove Programs.

Worked for ADE in school, where I couldn't install things but I could run PortableApps.com stuff from a flashdrive.
