It's as if it's not really logging you into your account. It's obviously not getting your current key. Entering your cc info does no good for new downloads because that's not what the key is based on any more. But, of course, Nook for PC doesn't know that.
I didn't intend for it to be a solution or even a work-around. Just a test to get an idea of what was happening. Here's something that might fix the problem, but I make no promises. Read through it and proceed at your own risk if you think it's worth a try. Cut & paste this in to the Windows Explorer address bar: %APPDATA%\Barnes & Noble\BNDesktopReader (It's a hidden folder.) Move the ClientAPI.db file out of that folder. (You can also delete or move any books you don't want in "my stuff" from the My Barnes & Noble eBooks folder in your Documents folder.) Then open Nook for PC, log in to your account, and see what happens. If this somehow leaves you worse off than before, you should be able to reverse it by deleting the new ClientAPI.db file and moving the old one back. |

I used Nook Study to get the necessary info to free my books then used the android app to download over 700 books which I then imported into Calibre. This worked at this time and I am now free of the Nook ecosystem.

I used an unrooted android device. I do have the old nook app though. I remember talking to a co-worker and he showed me the new look of his nook app on android. I never updated.
I suppose that the new nook app on android hides the books in some way? I will add that to my conversion notes. For my co-worker we can use my device to get the books. Thanks for the heads up. djw |

For me, the easiest way to get Nookbooks downloaded is still with Nook for PC. But you need to Google to find the download page. And, as discussed previously, a few people have reported they can't get it to work with their accounts for some unknown reason. |

I never updated the Nook app because it required much more extensive access permissions. Good to know I missed that particular bullet.
Still, these days I only have two magazine subscriptions (the Analog/Asimov's combo) and the Greasemonkey script works on them -- but only on the current issues, since B&N no longer gives browser access to back issues. |

I never changed anything in my account & so far have been able to future proof all of my older books & most of the new ones. I download a free book every few days just to make sure I have not been switched over. I have noticed, however, that all of the B&N "Free Friday" books have the new DRM. I also have sporadic "fails" with some of the free books listed on BookBub. I am wondering if whether or not you get the new DRM might be dependent upon which server the books are located on? Usually I can DL the same free book from Google Books or Amazon & have no issues.
Other then the free books I have not purchased anything new from B&N since I became aware of the change over & have been purchasing most of my books from Google books. I have several devices in addition to Nooks & I do not want to have to rely on the very flaky Nook for PC app to read BN books. So far, since most of the time I can still future proof my BN books, I have left well enough alone. I am hoping Alf will come up with a solution built in to a future Tools update. |

You're not having problems with books from Amazon and Google because both use DRM methods that have tighter integration with the tools at the moment. |

I can confirm that there was a mix of DRM keys used in books that I have stored on my android device using the nook app. To clean up any that used an key other than the current one I redownloaded on an account wiped nook app. My nook app happily opened ebooks with older keys.

I normally archive the current issue after I've downloaded it, and then it is always available to download later. A friend of mine lost most of his subscriptions because they disappeared after a year.

From my own experience and what I've seen here and at Alf's:
I believe that all accounts have now been switched to non-credit card based keys. Most accounts have one current key which is always the same regardless of download method. A few accounts have a second active key which is only used on Nookstudy downloads. So far I haven't seen anyone report that their key has changed again after being switched to a non-cc based key. Older downloads will have whatever key was current at the time they were downloaded. As far as I know, all Nook apps/devices will store keys for anything they have previously opened. |

Thanks #FizzyWater
Thanks for the info on GreaseMonkey and the script. Worked great. A note to any reading this later. The updated location to find the script is:
