Thanks! This worked perfectly for me. I didn't need to check my Kindle books because I always convert them to epub. So I immediately know whether or not they have DRM. I did see a few AZW files, but they were DRM-free. Apparently the tools missed them, but they never had DRM to begin with.

Of course, pdurrant's DRM Check script would be very nice as a calibre plug-in anyway.

Kovid just added a couple commits to error out around filetype plugins messing up, perhaps that will in future warn when the DeDRM plugin fails.

When it fails, and you're running in debug mode, you don't get any error message, unfortunately. The normal behaviour of the plugin is to display in the debug log "Started processing (book name)", then "Completed processing (book name)". When it fails, you just don't get the "Completed" line. No errors.

So glad I stumbled upon this thread. I received a $75 B&N gift card. I will be sure to use it in the store, and not buy books online! (and wouldn't even do that if I didn't have this card!) At least I can use it in the cafe, which I really like.

Thanks!

I did say in future.

I am not 100% sure what this is meant to do, but the only filetype plugin I am actually aware of is the DeDRM one, so it probably means something.

EDIT: Sorry, that was something else I think.

Well, I finally finished redownloading and epub converting. It was also a good opportunity to clear out the duplicates. It turns out that I'm not as big a hoarder as I previously thought. The original mobis still remain in case I purchase a Kindle in the future.

I was able to convert 100 titles at a time, however, Calibre used almost 100% of my laptop's resources. Pausing my auto-backup to Cloud storage may have helped also.

Good to know that you can at least convert in larger batches even if you have to add them one at a time (with calibre 2.10 and later).

Thankfully I'm caught up myself now. I'll say one thing for B&N removing the download links: It spurred me to finally make sure I had all my ebooks from all vendors in calibre and backed up.

I just ran the quality check plugin and found two ePub that were not DRM free. I am going to have to find the originals and remove the DRM from them.

I downloaded 45 free self-published books from Amazon and 17 of them had DRM about 38%. Now I'm completely caught up with both previous and recent acquisitions.

Added: I had to do these one at a time as Calibre and the tools were out of sync.

I tried adding 5 books to Calibre a couple of days ago (latest version of Calibre, latest version of the tools) and only the first of them had its DRM removed. I had to re-add them one at a time to get the tools to work. Some change seems to have been made in Calibre about v2.10 which broke the ability of the tools to work with batches of books.

Yes, I'm getting similar results. I was hoping the DRM would be removed during conversion also.

Recently I started having the same problem adding a single book. I'd have to delete and re-add the file on the edit metadata screen for the DRM to be removed. It's been ok since I updated to version 2.12 though.

I received an email from B&N asking me to take a survey about Nook. They asked about ebook buying, reading, and devices, both currently and in the past. I let them know that removing the download buttons and disabling the ability to sideload are the main reasons I've stopped buying from them. Anyone else here get the survey? Hopefully it will start to give them some idea of how they've been destroying themselves.

I still "buy" a lot of freebies there, so I'm not sure I'll get one either, but if I do, I have plenty of complaints about how they are driving away the high-volume ebook buyers.
