B&N removed download option on all books in "My Nook" library

No, but the why B&N generate an encryption key has changed, so entering your Name and CC# in ADE won't work any more.

Unless ADE also asks the B&N servers for the encryption key - I haven't tested, but I doubt it.

What is really strange is that some people (myself included) are not (as yet) having problems. I updated my CC in late July, just prior to the elimination of downloading. I am still able to DL & open all of my books in Calibre using Nook for PC. This includes both older books & new books I have purchased as of today. I have 3 different BN keys in Calibre as I have had 3 CC# since opening the account. Previously those keys were needed to open the older purchased books even though the cards were expired & no longer in the account. If the CC# is no longer a factor & the encryption has changed I wonder why I am still able to open all of my books?? Not complaining - just curious!

B&N seem to only be using the new encryption key calculation once you've changed something in your account details.

And, with all the data breaches, my credit card company is sending me a new card. But, I don't expect to be doing much more business with B&N unless I have a compelling reason.

Only if you had deleted your local copy. Both the apps and the devices save previous keys for books already downloaded. As well as any sideloaded and opened successfully.

I'm still not buying any more books there. I don't trust them not to change my key and shut off Nook Study's access to their servers. :P

I didn't realize the application kept old keys. The credit card I use with B&N was about to expire and I expected to have to download new books when I updated. I decided to do that a few hours ago and was surprised that my old books still opened.

Your Nook book files will be in username/Documents/My Barnes & Noble Ebooks/emailaddress/ on your Mac. I should probably remember to put a link to it in my Finder sidebar because I'm lazy (and now that I've done that, it's shift-command-T to add stuff to the sidebar). That makes it easier to point calibre at the right folder for adding books.

If you've been downloading your books and stripping DRM all along, you just need to use the Nook app to download any new books. If you haven't, you'll probably need to argue with the software to get them all downloaded and added to your calibre library. Once the DRM is stripped, you can read them whereever you like. You do NOT need to re-download books where you've already stripped the DRM.

If Nook for Mac gives you problems, you can use the Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox (or the Tampermonkey extension for Chrome) and the BN-Dload script to add a download button on your Nook library webpage.

Karma sent to you. Thanks. This worked for me. I had to update my cc info at B&N site. The original date had expired. Even though the cc # was the same Calibre wouldn't work. Did your tip and re entered the cc # and my name and it worked.

Well it is official B&N does not want me for a customer. This morning they deauthorized my Nook Study program. When I opened Nook Study it said this device it no longer authenticated, and closed.

Had you been able to sign in before? I logged in when I installed it on this PC back in September and never logged out. It is still syncing up and showing the freebie I picked up yesterday. But they lost me as a paying customer already.

Used it on Saturday was not logged out.
