Go into your account and change your billing and report back.
Just changed my default cc, downloaded a book, and made sure it was using the new cc for it's DRM by opening it with ADE. Made the new key for Alf's plug-in and it worked.

I really don't see how BN could have changed their DRM. None of the software for their apps or devices has been updated in months. Latest update to anything is August for the new Samsung Nook which just came out in July.

So, for now at least, I believe there's got to be a way to get the current tools working for everyone.

Actually it's quite easy to imagine how they could have done so—although "changing their DRM" is probably the wrong way to think about it. They could simply change the seeds (garnered from user info) used to generate the keys (to the same DRM algorithm they've always used). User account info that registered apps and devices, of course, already know all about--and that Alf's plugin does not.

Or it's quite possible that there's always been multiple decryption/key schemes in the apps/devices that just weren't being used until now.

If it's the former—and it's based on account data that's publicly "knowable"—someone will probably come across the specific combination sooner, rather than later. If it's the latter (or keys are being generated from account tokens that users can't easily retrieve), it could spell trouble.

I'd like to test this out. Does anyone know of a free title with DRM?

Here's one, Taboo by Casey Hill, #1 in the CSI Reilly Steel Series.

DRM removal still works for me, but I haven't had to change any info at B&N in ages (and don't plan on it if I can avoid it at this point).

Edit: I'm wondering if how the books are downloaded makes any difference? Such as to your PC B&N Desktop app or Nook Study, whichever you use, to your reader, or using the alternative download link from the Greasemonkey script? I always use the alternative download link from the GM script.

Since none of my info had changed I tried making a new key file without my middle initial. It worked. I now have both key files in the same directory.

I don't know if this is directly applicable to anyone else, but this is what happened to me.

Thanks to all who are helping out by giving us info on the name to use to generate the B&N key.

I tried it (thanks for the titles ) and it wouldn't work/open for me. I added 6 different combinations with no result. I don't have a middle name.

I used the Tampermonkey script to download. Greasemonkey told me I had an invalid credit card.

Added: Also, tried Nook for PC (new install) and it told me I had an expired credit card. No downloads there.

Your trial is flawed and not valid. You do have to have a valid credit card linked to your B&N account.

Gah! They are definitely using something else to generate the keys now. I changed my default cc again (to something I'd never used before) and this time the tools no longer worked for me. I changed it back to the original card and now that no longer works either.

So if you've recently changed your billing info, you're out of luck for now. Even if you switch back to the previous card.

However new and previously downloaded books still open just fine with Nook for PC. So hopefully someone can figure out a new crack.

ETA: I downloaded the files with the Tampermonkey script and with Nook for PC.

The card is valid. B&N wouldn't have let me buy the books if it wasn't.

You mean when you tried to download Greasemonkey, or when you tried to download the books? As far as I can tell your credit card shouldn't be involved with Greasemonkey.

I was able to download it (with Greasemonkey), read it into Calibre and convert it to Mobi format for the Kindle. I also used the alternative download link. I don't know if it matters but I use Linux. (Linux Mint 13.) Is it possible the OS could be involved in this issue?

EDIT: Probably not. This is probably just something B&N is rolling out and they haven't gotten to me yet.

In order to use the Greasemonkey B&N script, you have to have a valid credit card associated with your account or the download link the script provides will not work even if you've download the eBook in the past. You cannot even use Nook for PC to download if the credit card on the account is not valid.
