not updated since June. It seems familiar to what you have found. But [deleted] works with this reality, IIRC. It trawls the SQLlite db and displays (and numbers) found titles.

I only ask because Kobo is kind of diligent with forced desktop upgrades but I have a firewall which informs me of potentially unwanted activity from the Kobo app. Today I denied an https connection, and the desktop would not display one of the few true kepubs I bought there (and which I apparently left open in a tab).

(Edit: actually, forbidding the https request from akamaitechnologies has locked all my titles...)
I installed 3.10 on Win7. I tried [deleted] but the window closed immediately.

Too bad, I can't really go somewhere else that kobo (unless you count the darknet).
At least, i own a kobo, i'll be able to read the book, if not on my reader of choice .

Kind of a sad reminder that the fist thing you need to do is put your book somewhere safe, and un-drm them

[Deleted] unlocks its into a kepub again which then can be cleaned up in Calibre using merge epub plugin. I've only purchase two kepubs but I was able to get them into epub format using this method.

Thanks. I got it working somehow. Perhaps, my python files were outdated or mismatched but after reinstalling the latest versions (no longer easy to find) I got [deleted] to work. It still didn't find my book until I used a VPN even though the book was already downloaded. Very messy process. Not sure I'd go through that again.

It makes me appreciate how simple things were using B&N's direct download link.

It is an involve process so it's a good thing Kobo has download options on most books still.

Yes, and one final thing. Kobo deletes all your books when you close Kobo for PC.

Blossom - Unfortunately, they already do (or did) require you to be online to read books through their apps. It has been quite some time since I used Nook for Android, but I remember at one point you had to be online at least when you opened the book That's one of the reasons I stopped using them. Another reason is being unable to avoid hyphenated words, sometimes even at the end of a page.

I don't know if they still require online access to open a book, but they did for a while. I'm sure they received complaints from people unable to access their books, and perhaps they've removed this requirement by now. But it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they reactivate this "feature".

Yep, all gone. Perhaps, it's their latest version from August 24, 2014. Kobo downloaded all 147 books plus dictionaries. I closed the program and every one disappeared. Thinking I did something wrong, I started it up and it proceeded to download all 147 books plus dictionaries again. And now they are gone. It may explain why [deleted] wasn't working for me.

For me, it's basically a cloud reader.

I'm pretty sure that isn't intended behavior. I just opened mine to check and all of my books are still there. I have Windows 7 and I'm running the latest update. It's currently syncing the eight books that I bought since the last time I ran the desktop app, but everything else is still there.

On the confirmation screen Kobo warns me that the books will be deleted. I didn't believe them. Now I do.

Whatever you do, don't sign out from your Kobo account.

I just downloaded the latest version of the Desktop Kobo app this morning. It syncronizes every time I launch Kobo (and that can take a while), but my previous books are still there. They're kept in the Appdata\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub folder on Windows (and they have no file extension). The Kobo Desktop program simply doesn't deal with anything OTHER than the kepub format these days. The titles and other details (including encryption, filename, etc...) are kept in the sqlite db, but the encrypted epubs should be fully intact in that folder I mentioned. Rename one with a .zip or .epub extension and have a look. The text will be gobledygook, but the structure's all there... plus some extra crap.

Maybe there is copyright issue ?

B&N was not international but US company and you couldn't buy books when abroad outside US (or UK recently) but somebody inside US should've done that using your account so that you could download book when abroad.

Now maybe it's possible, but not as downloaded but to be read through cloud only?

3:10 min. at 3:40 they say that you only can't rent and view videos outside US.

Yes, now sign out from Kobo Desktop using the drop down menu in the right corner.

Thanks for the spoiler with the script.

I installed Greasemonkey on Pale Moon, copied the script, clicked "New User Script" from the dropdown menu, clicked "Use Script from clipboard" and saved it. Went to the B&N site and "Alternative Download" is now showing by each of my books.

I had already downloaded all of my B&N books, but I do still have some B&N gift cards to use up, so this will make sure that I still have full use of my future purchases.
