Well, he did manage to get Teleread on a Slashdot fronpage the third time in the last couple of months, I think. So from his point of view his article was highly successful.

And, after all, what's the worst that can happen? If he gets supporters, as I'm sure he will, he gets to keep the money. It's a win-win situation from his point of view.

David Rothman runs Teleread, which reported on the campaign by Michael Kozlowski, who runs "Good"ereader.

How is Teleread getting on a Slashdot frontpage (possibly resulting in "Good"ereader getting more supporters) a win-win situation for Teleread keeping "the money"?

Upgrade from an expensive e-reader that you didn't get to the even more expensive e-reader that you're not likely to get? They're really going for the long con here, aren't they. I don't get the need for flexible funding here. They only need 60 people in order to make an order. You either get 60 people or you don't. If you made it so that no one lost money if things fall through then you might actually get people who are on the fence.

I was referring to GoodEReader, not Teleread. I thought that was obvious from the context of my post, but seemingly not.

And I expect that number to drop when people realise that they're on the hook for US$700 and will get nothing if it doesn't more than triple its sales.

The thing I find most annoying about this ereader is the CPU chip.

It's a i.MX6 Sololite, which is the slowest single core processor in the i.MX6 line, which is now over five years old.

This is a single core, 1.0 GHZ processor. I find dedicated ereaders running the same or better processors to be underpowered, how is this hamster of a processor going to handle Android, even for something as simple as running an ereader app.

Because with flexible funding, the guy gets to keep the money without delivering anything more than promises.

Because those are the advertised conditions. Nobody is being deceived; they are voluntarily giving money knowing that that's what the deal is. There's nothing illegal in that, although one might well question the wisdom of those who choose to donate under such circumstances.

Or, as Kozlowski explained it to the guy who asked why they weren't using fixed funding although their new campaign seems a clear-cut case for that:

That answer should be a massive red flag to anyone who reads it. No risk to me, you may or may not get anything, don't worry - be happy!!
