Ah, sorry about the faulty patch, then!

The up and down shift wasn't really noticeable for me due to fonts and custom spacing being applied, so I did not pay much attention to that. I just figured out enough to see that what I did accounted/corrected for the shift.

I'm glad to see this being actively updated again, though. It's a very valuable plugin and it not being converted over was why I didn't pay attention to calibre 5 for the longest time. Thank you for your hard work!

Can you confirm that the posted test version does address your issue?

I have 5 different plugins with test versions hanging around, which is 4 more than usual.

I'd like to start releasing some of them.

- Fix for border causing image to move horizontally.
- Remove draw_old.py, not needed in Cal v2+ - min valid calibre is v2.85.1

I'm having an issue with the latest version. Images narrower than the cover are no longer centered horizontally:

I downloaded the plugin's git repository and identified the last commit that was working correctly as #2173f44dce5e30c4d195ec4158a3cd9f92518e4d ("GC: Remove draw_old.py, not needed in Cal v2+").

Unsurprisingly, the one that introduced the off-center behavior was a change to the way the "left" position variable is calculated (#1b7e5e72ab80d5c82884ad206faf64a63f5d5548 "GC: Fix for border causing img to move horz."), mentioned a few posts earlier in this thread.

I'm running this under Calibre v3.48

This, unfortunately, is what happens when the one maintaining something didn't write it and doesn't actually use it practically at all.

It's not just narrow image, it's narrow image plus large left/right margins. So it's a good thing you included those settings, too.

And you're right--I fixed the border un-centering issue incorrectly. Hopefully, this works better over all.

Just a quick note. Covers for books with dragons should have an actual dragon on the cover.

I skimmed this thread and didn't see anything about Subtitles so if this has been asked I apologize.

Is there a way to have the generated cover smartly handle subtitles?

For example, if the book title is "My Doctoral Thesis: A short description of the research" I'd either want the cover to only have "My Doctoral Thesis" OR have that and then "A short description of the research" in a smaller font underneath.

In theory, having a "Separate Subtitles on: [__]" option would be the key change to the UI. (I think?)

For whatever it is worth, this might also help people that have put a series in the title field. Where I'd be using ":" they might use "-" instead.

So often the subtitle is part of the subtitle, and not something I'd want to change necessarily. It certainly would be nice to be able to put in a regex to extract the subtitle automatically before making the cover!

If someone wants to undertake adding that, they are more than welcome to. GC in pretty firmly in maintenance mode as far as I'm concerned.

Is there any way to access this plugin directly from the edit metadata dialog window Ie from the "change cover" area?

I would like to go through the edit metadata window for a bunch of books and be able to use this plugin from within that window instead of the main window.

I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere but it did not show up when I searched.
