I got my PW2 back at initial release. I am still really enjoying it so much more than my PW1. It will definitely be my primary reader this year compared to Nook and Sony.

i searched the thread and can't find the same issue as i had so here goes
i got my new kindle (paperwhite gen 2) and was using it for 3 days before the battery went low and I had to charge. i left it on the charger for 24 hours. when i woke up, the kindle had the "your kindle needs repair" screen which would no go away no matter how many times i rebooted the device. I contacted amazon support and they replaced it. Upon getting the new unit, the first thing i did (after registration) was to charge the device. This morning when I woke up, i'm back to the "your kindle needs repair" screen. Amazon will be sending me a 3rd kindle (and again i need to return the defective unit) but the issue is getting annoying. Has any of you encountered this problem before? |

I used my PW 2 last night before bed. I noticed that the light doesn't seem as bright as on my PW1. I needed it set to 6 in my bedroom in the dark where as I usually have my pw1 set to 3. Anyhow it was a joy. Lighting was uniform, no colored hues even when I turned it to max brightness to check.

Agreed. My first thought is what are using it to charge with? The cable that comes with it? Wall charger? USB to Computer? It sounds like that may be the problem. If it's a wall charger try a different outlet.

Just to be safe, I would replace the charger and charging cable - maybe it has managed to fry your Kindles? |

I do believe the input voltage of the kindle is 500mA. would there be an issue of using a 1000mA charger or even a 2300 mA one? |

Unfortunately I'm not sure a charger working on some device is proof of it not causing issues on another. If there is some slight variance there, slight uncompliance with standards in connectors, peak voltage/current or somewhere, dirt or wear and tear, who knows. I guess it also could matter is it a branded or cheap no-name or clone product, cheap no-name products probably more easily susceptible to non-compliance than "official" ones. |

The current rating of the charger is simply of specification of the maximum current it's able to supply; it's always the device being charged which determines what current to actually draw. It's fine to use a charger with a higher maximum current rating than a device requires, but not good to use a charger with a lower current rating than a device requires.
