After a long journey (Seychelles Post) yesterday I received the T63. But what a disappointment. The frontlight in my opinion does not work properly. The brightness is much to low and on upper edge it is even noticable darker. I made a comparison with my old Boyue T62 (which I also bought at banggood).
Furthermore they send me a pink flip cover. Hey – I’m a man and not a lady. ![]() To the other owners of T63, ist the low brightness normal or do I have a defective device? |

Other than that, my T63 is just like yours - low brightness and the slightly darker upper edge. I happen to prefer the low brightness, as I found the frontlight of my T62+ too bright at first (though it got better with firmware updates). |

I'm considering moving away from Kindle Voyage (tried Play Books on a tablet and liked its convenience for wireless download/sync and epub support) and about to pull the trigger on Boyue T63.
@downeaster59 -- thanks for testing various apps, your report that Play Books works without issues was invaluable to me. I'll be ordering from banggood -- do they ship their T63 with language set to English and Play Store already installed? FOV's thread on firmwares lists T63_161104_full as the most recent one -- is it the version on the T63 you've received? If not, which one does it come with? Has anyone tried updating firmware to T63_161104_full? Are there any alternative firmwares for T63 yet? I'm a bit concerned by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRRdK17sRiY of the T65 which was supposed to be released on Nov 11. So people who already have their T63 in hand -- does the product in the video looks like T63? |

Yes, Banggood shipped my T63 to me with English pre-set. The firmware on my device is: Boyue-Ereader_V1.0.0-2016102517. Beware of other firmware versions as some have only Chinese as a language option! I haven't yet seen other firmwares for this T63. Maybe I've missed something. Banggood will include a case, but they choose the color. I got black. Someone else here got pink. Be warned. You may not get your favorite color. Play Store is not installed. However, if you go to this forum and use the T6x Toolkit, it will root your T63 and install Play Store. Be sure to thank nightboy for his great tool. |

Do the Boyue T62 and/or T63 come with a norefresh/A2 mode installed? I think the Onyx do. To know what I mean, here a youtube example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBbl6egyPsQ I don't plan to play angry birds, but you get the idea. The screen scrolls/updates without flashes. Edit: It does. It's automatically activated. Last edited by Pajamaman; 01-05-2017 at 03:47 PM. |

I am interested very much if page turn buttons work in any version of Cool Reader 3 build made by jotas (not the official one).
Or indeed if Cool Reader by jotas works at all on T63. There are three such versions for the last build: cr3.0.57-15-51-1-eink-jotas.apk cr3.0.57-15-51-1-jotas.apk cr3.0.57-15-51-1-nook-jotas.apk The first one is most likely to work, as it is a generic e-ink version. And it supports T68 and C67 so it is very likely to work OK with T63, I think. The second one is for Sony PRS T1 & T2, the 3rd one - for Nook. BTW, Cool Reader (by jotas) has its own page refresh modes, so you may try them if you like. And it has its own built-in recently read list, so who cares about the home page section. This list seems to show only the last 100 books, but actually holds more: if you remove some books from the list, others show up (after restarting Cool Reader). Interesting if next/previous buttons work in the recent read list and in the built-in file manager and in various settings of Cool Reader (such as font list, font sizes, etc) too? I just hope that there is no problems with T63 wanting to index all the books and choking. On T1/T2 a hack was implemented to prevent that. On linux devices a hidden folder for books is enough (name starting with a dot). Perhaps for some android readers it works too. After all, android is really linuxoid. Unfortunately, the current version is almost 2 years old. Perhaps it is already perfect so no new updates are needed ![]() So it would be great if somebody could test that (or already is using Cool Reader). But I think a shot in the dark is worth taking anyway. I also saw here discussions about the brightness levels of T63 compared to T62, etc. The only brightness level I need is completely off. I hope the light can be turned off completely, but it would be nice to get a confirmation, considering that Kindle keeps glowing in the dark no matter what (until you hack or smash it?) ![]() PS. I believe I've read about it somewhere before, couldn't find this information now. Is there a hardware button combination to bring up backlight adjustment popup? Last edited by stangri; 01-06-2017 at 07:24 PM. |

![]() I haven't tried Xposed on my T63, and I haven't tinkered with any system files, so I can't help you there. Surely someone else here can. Also, I haven't run across any hardware button combo that would bring up the backlight adjustment popup. I set the brightness on mine where I like it, and then I have left it alone. Still, if anyone else has figured it out, we'd be interested. |

Yes, but can you set the brightness to zero? I hope so. As far as I know only Kindle does not allow it.
Please check in complete darkness to make sure it does not glow at all. |

My T63 arrived today, black case and screen protector included.
I'm happy with it but even though I'm someone who doesn't like it bright this is really dark. On the banggood site the poster here said it was dark and BG said to change it from night view to day view mode?????? Anyone know what where that is? I also got a refurb from the Energy Sistem site of their t62+, it was half price and the audio might be useful. No customs from Bang Good it seemed to land in the UK then get sent on. |

I used Xposed previously, but not now. You need to use the version that installs with an apk. You can brick the device with this so you need to be careful. |
