Ah, ok, after pasting a NON-pdoc .mobi into the docs folder...it does, indeed, show up in books, and doesn't, interestingly enough, show up under the docs tab.
So yep, either Documents or Books folder is fine. Conversely, of course, this means that any .mobi WITH that tag, in either folder, goes into the Docs tab. You'd think amazon would make this clear, they have to expect people to load their own books, one would think |

What's the screen resolution of the Fire? For the moment, I've got the welcome wizard setting the output profile to the Kindle DX profile, but the Fire is probably different.

OK, I've added the driver (it's derived from the Kindle 2/3/4 driver, so I dont know how much advanced functionality will work). Those of you willing to run calibre from source can test it. Instructions for running from source are here:
http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/develop.html Otherwise, it will be in this Friday's calibre release. |

In my testing, the Fire does not support sub-directories within the Books directory.

My wife just got the Fire and I'd love to help get it setup in Calibre.
sub directories (under books) don't work for me either Thanks, John Last edited by itsnotsohot; 11-15-2011 at 11:13 PM. |

MOBI vs ePUB
Looks like dropping the MOBI file in \Books works, but when I put the ePUB in there... no good.

I need a consensus, do subdirectories work or not? Take a simple .txt file with a couple of lines of text in it. Create a subdirectory under /Documents, something like
/Documents/test_dir Put the .txt file in /Documents/test_dir Eject the Kindle. See if the .txt file shows up. Note that it may be under Documents not Books in the user interface of the Kindle. |

Ok, done.
/books/testdir/test.txt doesn't show up anywhere /books/test.txt shows up according to the pdoc tag. My bad, Kovid. When I tested earlier, I only tested the /books and /docs folders. Sorry. |
