Glo Kobo Night Mode

Hello!

thanks to yoq! I've tried his solution and now my glo 3.3.0 runs in night mode!
It's the only thing that I use every day!

@Lucas: Yes, I don't forward the ioctl to the system and answer 0 to nickel (meaning "ioctl executed, no problems").
About the driver question, the source you mentioned gets not compiled into the kernel, the only things you can use are in mxc_epdc_fb.c
From the kernel config:

Thank you! I suppose also Kobo devs must refresh the screen as you done. This is strange, since using a sys device seems to be much simpler.

What changed:
As Lucas Malor already pointed out, the line to start nickel changed, so the (un)installer had to be adapted. Also someone had the brilliant idea that nickel needs exclusive access to the hardware buttons (see this strace):

my Aura is still on 3.2.0, and the hack is working beautifully. Only slight issue, I cannot get it to launch it with Sergey's launcher, though I did modify the ini file (which is no longer in the kobolauncher directory, by the way, it is now called vlasovsoft, wonder whether it is worth amending the instructions in the first post).

Is anybody running build 13 on a Touch under FW 3.3.0? I am toggling it via fmon. My problem is that after toggling, the device gets unresponsive more often than not. Since I have installed some other hacks too, I would be interested to hear from other Touch user how the night mode works for them. By the way, I had the same problem with build 12 under FW 3.3.0.

Thanks again for making this night mode! I'd almost forgotten it wasn't original until a sync brought a firmware update and I had to reinstall. Works well again now. A must for night reading. :-D

Forgive the noob question: do I have to uninstall the hack before the firmware update,or is it okay to wait for the update to break the hack,and then install again without uninstalling first?

I'm lost because the process seems to be more difficult than the other times to use night mode with the last FW 3.3.0... !

So who can make a summary for people that have a bad english for this : I use FW 3.2.0 on my GLO with night mode v12 and I want to go to FW 3.3.0 with night mode v13... what should I do ?

just update the firmware and install build 13 in the same way as you installed build 12 (the file is in message 374)

Thx Paola, I've tried and all is ok !

For you and the others guys : night mode is the only hack I use... Now there is a new fun patch that brings the multitouch like this :

- change light level by a two finger up/down slide on the screen, while reading a book and light being on
- change font size by a pinch gesture

2- Do you understand that, in future, we will have to uninstall the multitouch patch before upgrade to FW 3.4.0 (and 3.5.0, etc) or will they be compatible?

I'm happy again. With my wife on holidays I discovered in our caravan, the night mode did'nt work. In the little room thats a must!
