I think I'll leave it for now and look for something else. I recently finished Torment: A Novel Of Terror. I liked the plot and story but I thought it ended quite abruptly and wonder if there will be a sequel. | |

Just finished Alone in the Universe by John Gribben. In this non fiction work, he addresses some very interesting facts about the universe and especially our galaxy and solar system. And he argues very convincingly about the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe (likely) and intelligent life (unlikely) elsewhere. |

how the heck do you put George RR Martin on hold? although A Feast For Crows was a disappointment compared to the first three books it was quite readable A Dance With Dragons also did not compare to the first three books in the series but it was quite a good story - almost as a stand alone reading My Man Jeeves by PG Wodehouse mainly because i recently did the CM7 thing with my nook color and along with calibre i can put just about anything on my ereader now Quote:

still reading Butlerian Jihad. if this is representative of the "crappy" KJA Duneiverse then bring on some more. the book is entertaining, something i can't say about the original Dune novels. were they good? yes. but far from entertaining.

Just started Soft Target by Stephen Hunter, the lastest in the Bob Lee Swagger series, though this one is centred around his illigitimate son, Ray Cruz.

Death in a White Tie - Ngaio Marsh

I'm working my way through the "Inspector Alleyn" books in order, and this book, "Death in a White Tie" is #7, published in 1938. It's the London "season" - the round of tea-parties, balls, and parties, when debutantes (ie, young ladies from high society) "come out" and formally enter society. But blackmail is in the air, and Inspector Roderick Alleyn enlists the aid of his friend, Lord Robert "Bunchy" Gospell, to aid in tracking down the blackmailer. But, just as he is about to reveal the identity of the blackmailer to Inspector Alleyn, Lord Robert is murdered... This is an absolutely superb detective story. I've seen it described as one of Ngaio Marsh's best, and I have to agree. All the clues are fairly presented to the reader, but the outcome took me completely by surprise. VERY highly recommended. |
