My podiatrist cancelled today's appointment because she tested positive to Covid19. We've been congratulating one another for almost 4 years for being Novids. Fortunately another podiatrist was able to shuffle her appointments, so she can see me tomorrow.
Near miss for me. Had my appointment been yesterday I would have seen her then. Apparently she has minimal symptoms but she does regular RAT tests, and because she's an allied health professional she has access to fast PCR testing. BR |

Rumple- how about only bringing thins up when you want to use each one? Since you’ll need to re-sanatize for viewings, having the smallest amount of stuff sounds best!

Plus we won't have to sanitize as much during the viewings. I'm leaving the storage containers underneath the bed, which will fit most, if not all, of my weird stuff and I think it's okay to leave my crafting supplies. My electronics can be locked away in a cupboard. So it's only going to be a couple of things that I will have to remove. I'm not sure what my sister wants to remove for the viewings. I brought everything up yesterday afternoon, 15 trips. I'm sore this morning. I'm up early again this morning, in 20 minutes at 8 am the plasterer is coming to redo the ceiling in the bathroom. But I'm taking it easy today, I had planned on doing some of the weekly chores, but those can wait until Saturday. |

Please stop using words like "bomb" to report the weather. I get that you want to sexy/scare it up, but stop it. It's stupid.

In the case of a nuclear winter, I suspect that worrying about what word choices were made in online forums would be very low on most people's list of concerns.
I will admit to be amused by one person referring to 1816 (described as The Year Without A Summer) as a nuclear winter. I have trouble seeing the eruptions of Mount Tambora in 1815 and Mayon in 1814 as being nuclear. Last edited by DNSB; 01-12-2024 at 06:01 PM. |

Why do those idiots who have no idea of how to drive in snow and do not have have all weather or better tires insist on driving in the snow? A couple of centimetres of snow and we have people who can't get up a 10° slope. The idiots who tailgate when there's a layer of ice on the road and the person ahead of them is 'only' doing the speed limit. The nitwit who rammed the pedestrian gate in my complex because he thought he could get back on the main street after going around an accident and didn't notice the NO EXIT and No Trespassing signs at the entrance to the complex. That person is trying to claim that the accident is the fault of the complex since we had not cleared the snow off the road (actually, the snow had been cleared but a 0.5cm layer of ice was left behind).

In some areas, there's also a stigma for being a non-driver. I've had it directed towards myself, until the person realized that they probably don't want a brain-damaged idiot with poor peripheral vision and a tendency to faint who's been told by a doctor not to drive operating 2000+ pounds of metal at high speeds. Damn North America and its car-centric culture. Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-12-2024 at 11:26 PM. |

1000% agree. I constantly hear people complaining about drivers who shouldn't be on the road, but no one seems to believe me when I explain that I'm one of them. "There's no excuse for you not to drive." Really? Like vertigo? Like the thing that my eyes do at night or in the rain where every headlight makes everything else impossible to see? (And now that I live in Florida, any given day during our extended summer has a decent chance of a random unforecasted rain shower.)

I would be a terrible driver and would almost certainly cause a lot of accidents, due to my absent-mindedness and a complete inability to multitask (the latter means I cannot keep my eyes on the road and notice various traffic signs at the same time, for instance. My brain can only do one thing at a time).
So I don't drive, by choice. I don't care what anyone thinks about it, but even so I wouldn't want to live somewhere without a good public transport system. |

There is fairly decent public transit through much of the greater Vancouver area. To me, there is no excuse for not having winter grade tires on your car in January or driving too fast for the road conditions. And, yes, I'm one of those annoying people who do not drive the speed limit if the road conditions are bad.

Seriously, congratulations on knowing your limits and staying within them. Not sure if it is the car-centric culture or the people who share the simple optimism of Pollyanna that nothing bad will happen to them. |

My favorite memory of a driver that shouldn't have been on the road in snow:
I was driving to work in the morning during very light snow flurries - no accumulation and zero effect on visibility - and was behind a woman driving a Land Rover at 25 mph in a 45 mph zone. I actually felt sorry for them. |
