See Neil Stephenson's The Diamond Age, specifically some of the more innovative uses of "mediatronics," nanite-based imaging technology which can be formed on the surfaces of all kinds of objects to provide animated images and text. (In color, naturally.)

Ricky, would glow-in-the-dark tattoo ink suffice, or do you specifically want dark letters on a light background?

That's why someone needs to invent a whole new technology that we can make the damn things out of. I want back lit, with sharp text (no blurry glow in the dark tattoos), and a simple page turn method ... scroll forward one page when you tap him in the right nut and back one page when you tap him in the left nut. Bellybutton for bookmarks.

Yep ... that would work for me. With the added bonus that since he would be at least semi-sentient and mobile, the cats wouldn't pee on him half as much as they do everything else in the house. Less screen damage that way.

Scenario:

I get lazy sometimes, and on Wednesdays there is a fast food place a few blocks away that has a Wednesday Combo Special (I won't mention any names). I know the food's not that nutritious and has some fat but here the story goes as I walk up to the counter....

Q: Can I help you?

A: Yes, I'd like today's special, no cheese, with iced tea, to go.

Q: Would you like cheese with that?

A: No.

Q: What would you like to drink with that?

A: Iced tea.

Q: Is that to eat in or to go?

There's a company called "Cheapass Games" that makes some very funny, inexpensive card and board games. The above sequence reminds me of "Give me the Brain," about working in a fast food restaurant.
