I can't say a lot about portability and battery life as I've only had the device a few days. I bought the case mentioned in this discussion thread. I paid the extra couple of bucks for the green one and it fits perfectly with the pen attached to the side! Thanks to whoever found that case. I can't believe how thin the device is and how amazingly light. It is magical. I was led to the Sony DPT-S1 by an advertisement for the Remarkable, which won't be available until August and is quite a bit smaller. I definitely want a 13" inch screen. I wish Sony had tried to market the DPT-S1 to a wider audience. For some reason, I totally missed this device. I own a Kindle Oasis so I'm familiar with eInk, and have owned just about all Kindle models including the original DX. I think the Sony DPT-S1 would be perfect if they built a new model with LED edge lighting like on the Kindle. It's tough to write and see the display when using a little portable reading light. Thanks for answering - I also have a question regarding reading pdfs.
Does the reader rembember where You finished reading? Example situation: I open the pdf. Start reading and for example finish at page 12. When I reopen the same pdf again will it launch at page 12, or in the beginning of the document so I will be forced to manually change page to 12 and also doo a lot of remembering when I read a lot of stuff at the same time. I wanted to buy it so badly but now on Sony's homepage when I click where to buy I displays three options: B&H, Amazon and CDW. The 1st shop displays that the item is back ordered, the last one says it was discountinued 17th of Jan, and the amazon has some scams and fake stuff alongside with pretty expensive shipments from japan costing around 1700$ - that's insane. Is there still a way to buy it at a regular price costing $799? I mean in the US at least. |

@Deekin
It remembers your last opened page, and last opened books, you can also create workspaces, with specific books and notes, save it with a name, next time you open the workspace, it closes everything and open only your workspace documents, you can also switch easily between them using the top tab bar (which you can hide also). So all your history is stored. When it comes to its class, it's the best thing out there, it will be really unfortunate if we lose the quality of Sony DPT-1. I don't need any other reader with DPT-1, but one day it will die, and I'll need something similar, I hope remarkable will be there then or DPT-2 ![]() |

I don't think there is any way to buy it at $799 in the US. Everybody I contacted is out of stock. I think they were snapped up pretty quickly at the end of last year.
It is a wonderful device. The two page mode in landscape orientation is excellent for reading books. The four page mode makes it easier to find specific handwritten notes. Last edited by LarryNYC; 01-28-2017 at 04:42 AM. |

I use my DPT-S1 every day and don't want to go back to paper. It just feels natural for me to mark up documents with a stylus, make notes, draw little diagrams, etc. I've also started using the DPT-S1 to mark up my classical guitar music with fingerings and notes. My guitar teacher was pretty impressed with the device. He's had other students try using tablets and has seen how slow it can be to write something on the screen. In other news, my little LuminoLite started blinking so I sent it back. I'm going to try this light from MoKo: https://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Flexible...s=iKross+light |

Am I correct in assuming that as of now, the only way to purchase a DPT-S1 is via eBay? I remember Sony listing some authorised resellers other than Amazon, B&H and CDW.

Hey, my DPT has been on the fritz and I wonder if anyone has any good ideas -- I think there's something wonky with the 'back' button, and it randomly and automatically keeps going back to previous screens right back to home screen autonomously. If I press the back button hard and sort of bend the frame a bit it settles down, and also sometimes if I reset / restart it, but then the problem randomly starts up again. Just when they stopped selling it... any ideas anyone? The only other 13.3 ereaders are the onyx boox and the just starting to ship goodereader right? Anyone tried either of those? Or news of Sony coming up with a new version? This is the worst.

Same with me. I am trying to get this through an auction and lost - another guy paid a £1,050 for "buy it now" option. This is just crazy how much people are willing to pay for this, no?
Now expecting my device to be posted to me next week - hope it is all good as others described. |
