Nothing compares to the Sony!
Yes, thanks, had some experience with the ipad, and yes, found it affecting my eyes not in the positive way. By the way, new Onyx 13.3 device seems to get better features than Sony. And so I wonder if Sony is thinking of any essential upgrade, involving Android, and covering other text formats, such as djvu, epub, etc.

Hi everyone, just a quick questions for those who've bought the device in the past month or so. I just got mine today, and to my surprise, it came installed with the latest 1.5.50.11180 firmware which was released in early December 2015.

I bought it new from the retailer. But I wonder whether I just got an used item or one of the latest batch that is pre-loaded with the latest firmware update? Would appreciate if someone could confirm. Thanks.

Turn pages? What do you exactly mean? You are able to swipe left or right in order to browse through the pages

Hi,

there's a nice case for the Sony DPT-S1 on the Sony Japan site:

http://www.sony.jp/digital-paper/pro...SC-DPTS1P02BK/

MSC-DPTS1P02BK

Is there any chance to buy one from Europe?

Hi everyone, I want to buy a 13.3" device, currently I'm using an Onyx M96, I may get the Onyx Max, but the weight is stopping me from hitting the order button.

I like the M96 reader, the ability to crop, zoom and change the contrast has been of a great help. I know that with the DTP-1 there is no crop/zoom functions (like the one with Onyx), but what about the contrast? can I darken the text? anyone used an Onyx M96 and a DPT-1? could you please advice the quality of the text on the DPT-1? currently this is the only concern I have with the DPT-1.

Thanks for your help in advance.

You can purchase it online from B&H (US) very conveniently. I bought mine there and it arrived home within a few days only.

I had the Onyx M92 and compared to the Sony the Onyx is a piece of crap. The pen was like engraving instead of writing and even if this thing had a good amount of options to adjust the document view I sent it back after a few days. It's just awful and slow.
Now I'm using the Sony DPT-S1 for nearly a year and I know nothing except the Surface Book from Microsoft that could beat it.

The Onyx Max looks like a cheap copy of the Sony DPT-S1 but I have no interest in the Onyx after my previous experience with their m92 and I do NOT support that chinese rip off culture as it harms our economies in the long term!

The Onyx devices could be good as an internet tablet for surfing the web in the sun but I don't know how slow/fast it is.

To be fair: The Webbrowser on the Sony is unusable slow and it only has a portrait mode.

In graphic heavy PDFs the Sony and annotating could be faster.

@T.W.G Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I can't speak about the Onyx 92, I have the Onyx M96 Plus, it's really good, and their reader software is really good with contrast/boldness controls and the ability to crop/zoom and reflow PDFs, and to be really honest if it wasn't for the weight, I would have already ordered the Onyx Max.

If I may ask, could you open a book in two different tabs? something to use when reading textbooks to jump between problems and solutions at the end of the book.

@digiflash thanks of reminding me of the VAT :/, I guess that could hit me with an extra 50 CHF here.

Thanks for the feedback. I am thinking now of buying Onyx Max or Sony, and such feedbacks help me choose. I assume that pens are not the strong side of Onyxes, however, here you basically compare the pen of M92 with Sony, and not of the Max. But even assuming that Max has pens similar to those of M92, were there any other features in M92, as compared to Sony, that you did not like? Build quality, case?

I wonder if you had personal experience with the Onyx Max. I saw their videos, and also the videos with Sony. Sony seems to differentiate the pressure of the pen, has the capacitative screen (which is a huge plus), however, in terms of other options, navigation, browsing and bluetooth (thus no keyboard possible, no mouse, no work with it as with the ereading tablet) it is behind the Max. I heard that Max's display uses the same screen quality as Sony, so the text is quite sharp (for all its 150 dpi), and the build seems to be ok (as seen at the video).

I doubt that, since Max has 1GB of operative memory. Sony could be faster if it is capable of using its memory better. But we need to hear from those who had Sony and have bought Max.
