hello guys, Im keen to getting Dpts1, the cheapest I manage to find is hongkong YOHO online store which sells sgd 1338 (US vers), Im travelling to hk next month to collect. Before I make the payment, do you have any sites that offer lower prices than that? (other than the discounted 799 usd at sony website).

thankyou!

There are no more accessoires availabe in the Sony online store and I guess the device is either "EOL = End Of Life" or there will be a successor. But as Sony keeps ruining itself, I guess it just means: Finito! :-(

Does anybody know which pen technology the Sony DPT-S1 is using (N-Trig, Wacom...)? What if you loose the pen? Than it's just a very big ebook-reader...

Regarding the Onxy devices: I've had an Onyx M92 for a few weeks and it's just a piece of crap. It's only "ok" for reading DIN A4 PDFs with too many tradeoffs and the note taking feature is simply an impertinence! Same goes for that pen which acts more like a needle!

Why the panic? All I see is that Sony is updating their US shopping platform. Both the DPT-S1 and its accessories should be available there once it's up. Given that people keep buying the DPT even without Sony updating it means there is no reason that they should cancel it

As it's A4 pad size, some people have gone for pad holders/filos. Plenty to choose from and cheap. Just size one up in store or take a punt on a £3 one from Amazon.

Once I get mine I'll probably be doing something similar but want to get the reader first as I'll probably pop into Staples (stationary shop) with it. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks (if it ever turns up!).

Does anyone uses a screen protector for the device? It would be interesting to know, from those who have already used the reader, if the screen is prone to catch dirt and if so, how you have cleaned it.

Finally my DPT-S1 has been dispatched from Canada to make it's trek across to little old England.

Apparently, Sony have some supply issues at the moment. Something to do with closing stores and websites.

Doesn't sound good.

I tend to keep the DPT-S1 out of the mud and dirt but if it ever catches dirt, it shouldn't pose a problem to clean it apart from perhaps the edges where the IR bands sit. Since the screen isn't glossy it's not prone to scratches either. I don't think a protective cover would do any good but, as long as it does not irritate the IR sensors, wouldn't hurt either. If you find a cheap one which fits (or can be made so easily) I'd like to know about it!

On the subject of firmware updates: Could anyone with a good command of the Japanese language try to contact SONY JP and ask what is their plans for the US updates? SONY US doesn't provide any contact possibilities and, since they rarely know what's going on, wouldn't be of much help anyway. SONY JP on the other hand has online contact forms. I tried to use one but for some (possibly charset related) problem I could not submit the form successfully. If anyone here could manage to get in closer contact with SONY concerning the DPT-S1 that would be great!

ManDay, I'd like to know, what do you mean about the IR sensors? What are they used for/where are they located?

I've applied screen protector since day one. It buys me some insurance if I happen to drop some liquid onto the screen, or my pen has some problem that might scratch the screen (I sometimes mistook a ballpen with the digital pen ). The top layer of the protector still catches some dirt, fingerprints from time to time but you can always wipe them out safely with some wet tissue (instead of wiping directly on to the screen). IMO the writing experience has no compromise with the protector (at least my experience).

This is what I bought, a little expensive, but I think it's worth it. It in fact reduces some flare (under certain angles) and the writing seems smoother than before... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o03_s00

I ordered a DPT S1. Even if the product is discontinued it will be unique on the market. I will use a back cover. Is it recommended to use a screen protector?

Sony itself doesn't comment anything. The community page of sony regarding the DPTS1 is simply dead.

Edit:
Sony canceled my order without any comment and I'm not able to pay neither via credit card nor paypal???????
They don't like European buyers?

The guy(s) that I've been in contact during the purchasing process don't answer any e-mails. It could be the vacation, that's true, but however, they are in charge of selling...They should work even on vacations, right?

A question for the owners of the device: why are we provided with 3 spare stylus tips? Is it the case that they tend to wear and must be changed at some point in time? If the answer is yes, do any of you know where to purchase additional tips?

Thanks!
