I'm not sure if anyone's asked this already on this thread but it's kind opf difficult to go through all the pages. Hope someone can help me. I'm trying to put my device in fastboot but MfgTool refuses to recognize it. Please do let me know if more info is required. |

Well ok, you actually might have a small chance of repairing it without a serial cable, but you'll have to experiment quite a bit. See post #728 of this thread for something that can directly boot you into fastboot mode. Then, you could (probably) overwrite the u-boot bist with the one I posted in #725. Check a few posts before and after these, too, to see what the discussion is all about. ... assuming that that the missing/damaged u-boot bist actually is the cause of your problems. All the tools that you need (imx_usb_loader, fastboot etc.) are already contained in the Kubrick image, but you'll have to manually use them. (You can use Alt+F2 to switch to an interactive console). Otherwise, search for the tools on the forum, and try to get them to work on Windows. (BTW, one reason for writing Kubrick was precisely that an incredible amount of people had problems getting mfgtool to run properly on Windows ) |

Any advice? Could it simply be an issue with the battery? Is there any way to rule it out? |

I read through the that section of the thread but I have no idea where to start. I have a PW1 stuck on a "Your Kindle Needs Repair". | |

@DudeMan: Which FW version is it running, and what hacks do you have installed on it?

So I read around, found out that there was an updated firmware. Downloaded the "update_kindle_5.3.9.bin" file from amazon's site and the update went smoothly. (I can't remember what firmware it was on before I updated). I can't remember exactly what I did next, I didn't install anything else, no hacks, nothing, but I restarted the kindle and after that all I could go to was the YKNR screen. Charging overnight, holding the power button for 20s+, didn't do anything. The kindle gets recognized as a usb drive when plugged in to the laptop, for a few seconds, then it reboots and goes back to the "Your Kindle Needs Repair" screen. I didn't sleep that night, reading around this board, etc. The following morning I contacted Amazon support through chat (I'm located in Southeast Asia, getting a kindle here could get expensive, shipping+taxes). And was offered refurbs. So I gave up, accepted the loss. After a few days I decided to post and I don't know what to say... ixtab, will you marry me??? You don't know how happy I am right now, man. On a very tight budget, it's a little tough right now so buying another one isn't gonna happen anytime soon. I've been feeling awful the past few days - bought a used PW to save a few bucks, ended up losing more Thank you ixtab for the early Christmas present | |
