Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, but I'm new to the whole system of Calibre/Kobo/ereaders in general, and I'm a bit overwhelmed.
I have a Kobo (Clara 2e) and I'm using it in conjunction with Calibre already--what is the benefit KOreader offers over native functionality exactly? I understand the sort of granular stuff--editing formatting and fonts and etc, but is it just for things that small? I see it has some sort of wireless connection functionality but I can't figure out in what regard, and I know Calibre has the option to email yourself a book, is it like that?

@psychobillie: It barely has anything to do with calibre?

It's a completely separate reader application; it just also happens to have a plugin that serves as a calibre wireless client.

I don't quite think of anything to say besides check the manual?

I tried following the one click guide, but i didn't understand this one:

NOTE: On FW >= 4.17, you'll need to prevent Nickel from scanning *nix hidden folders.

So I just continued installing stuff, so long story short, it didn't work. And now, unknown authors files is in my list of books.

Idk how to uninstall stuff too, I'm using windows and people seems to be giving scripts for linux? I'm not really sure and now I can't follow.

So now, I want things to be fixed. I copy pasted this in the Kobo ereader file:

[FeatureSettings]
ExcludeSyncFolders=(\\.(?!kobo|adobe).+|([^.][^/]*/)+\\..+)

I am beyond confused. Can anyone help me please?
The way to fix things now that you've fixed the problem is to reinstall so the files that have since been deleted will be installed where they are and everything should be OK.

Hey guys, got a question regarding the importation of ebooks through Calibre.
When importing a lot of books, it takes time and the ebook goes in sleep mode or whatever it is which aborts the importation. Is there any way to prevent this other than making the sleep/lock timeout longer ?

Also, when importing books through Calibre, they do not show outside of Koreader in the official Kobo book thing. Is there a way to refresh the library or something so they appear outside of Koreader ?

Thanks <3

LG Sandra

Why is this thread and the Nickel menu thread not sticky? Is the forum limited to only five sticky posts? (Think I just answered my own question).

But isn't this more likely to be searched for than Metazoa? Whatever that is.

Metazoa is now somewhat obsolete.

Yeah, I imagine many more people searching for KOReader and NickelMenu install packages than some of the items in top menu.

Is there anyone 'in charge' of the top menu selection? Or is it like the biblical tablets - set in stone, for ever and ever, amen.

Does this mean I can't use KOReader to read my Overdrive library books?

If so, I will not bother installing it.

Thanks to anyone who knows the answer - sounds like a No anyhow.

Reading DRMed library books is probably the major reason that Kobo is still using the RMSDK renderer.

KOReader could add the code to handle DRMmed ePubs but that would be a fairly major task and likely to cause legal and financial complications with having to obtain licensing.

Yeah, not surprised to hear that. I recently bought this Kobo Clara 2E purely to read library books that are not available on Kindle (which is most of the new French books they are providing). So I will stick with the stock firmware.

Thanks

The Kobo corner unfortunately doesn't have a local moderator, so it's in the hands of global mods, for which it's, understandably, harder to grasp the context for such changes .

Usually, a friendly message issued via the "report" button on the thread would do the job, but, in this case, we kinda probably really need local mod(s) ;o).

(I mean, I'm a local mod in the Kindle corner, and that sort of house-keeping is 99% of what I use these powers for. And updating thread titles. That normal users can't edit their own thread title is befuddling in general and infuriating when you need it ).
