@jkalin12345: I don't use Windows (even less so Win 7), so if the MSDN docs are lying about backwards compatibility, too bad ;p.
I have no idea if current PowerShell versions can be installed there (I vaguely seem to remember someone mentioning something about that earlier, or maybe not). ---- Nickel is the name of Kobo's GUI. ---- TL;DR: You can also follow the first post and do it by hand. |

Complete novice - Plato works, koreader only png
Hi there, apologies if this has already been fixed on other threads. If so, would be appreciative to be directed there. I used the one click install on my kobo clara (have windows 10 and did plain extract) and it seems like plato works but i have 100+ images in my books, mainly png and left justify/etc, so nothing that looks like a program launcher. Based off another thread that I can no longer locate, I did look at the config file and couldn't find the recommended text so I wonder if things are being deleted or reconfigured? I'm a complete novice, so thanks for any advice you can offer!

@altoids: https://github.com/koreader/koreader...mportant-notes
It'll require a reinstall, since Nickel will then promptly delete that stuff, and we kind of need it. |

@cstms: That wasn't KFMon.
Figure out what you were actually using, and then look for help in the right place ![]() |

Read through the first two posts in this thread. Then you'll be able to ask more directed questions if necessary.

PSA: The OCP now bundle the excellent NickelMenu, so you'll also get an entry for KOReader/Plato in your main menu

I installed KOReaer and Plato following the instructions of this thread, using Linux Kubuntu 20.04: In my Kobo Aura One, last firmware, when I use Plato and I return on Nickel it is impossible reading any epub untill a fire off My Kobo and light on again. It claims that the book is DRMed and I don't have the right to read it. I have no DRMed books now in my Kobo.
It only happens with Plato, with KORead it is all OK, and it happens only with Epub, Kepub are regularly opened. Well, I am not a great user of Plato, it is only for curiosity that I installed it and I can uninstall it and repeat the installation only with KOReader (oh thank You for having it in Kobo Menu without the explicit installation of NickelMenu, it is a fantastic idea) ![]() Anyway since it is certainly not the expected behavior I think it is better to let you know. I can't know if it is Plato itself that causes the issue or it is KFMON after using Plato. May be also NM after Plato? Can You check it to see if it is only my Kobo that experiments the issue? May be some patch conflicts with it? (but I remember that a few months ago You said that this installation is not influenced by patches.) Last edited by ps67; 05-21-2020 at 03:15 PM. |

@ps67: Are the ePubs actually DRM'ed, or not?
(If they are, it might take a while for me to test that, because I don't regularly use ADE, so I'm a bit rusty on how the hell it's supposed to be usable on Kobo, re: DRM auth). ---- EDIT: Does this *only* happen if you open an ePub (and/or a DRM'ed one) *before* launching Plato/KOReader? Or is that irrelevant? (I *may* have had a lightbulb moment, as I've never bothered to check what happened to the adobehost process when we murder Nickel, and how that might affect DRM, because, as I said, I don't use it, since Kobo's my main store (-> KePub), and anything else I might use is DRM-free or not even an ePub to begin with (Kindle)). Nothing to do: after using Plato I opened several epub originally without DRM, some are public domain books, and until I turn it off and on again I always receive the message that the books are protected by DRM and I am not allowed to read them.

@ps67:
Huh. A quick highly scientific (^^) test based on a single DRM-free ePub (as I mentioned, I don't read ePubs, so it's my only goto test file, and my Kobo is not linked to ADE ;p) revealed that I couldn't actually reproduce that behavior (on an H2O). In any case, killing the RMSDK is a sound decision, and it may actually help with this, so: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/pull/6179 (Plus, 75MB of RAM, wheee!). EDIT: Ah. I wasn't using the latest Plato release, which probably explains it. https://github.com/baskerville/plato/pull/116 ought to fix it. Last edited by NiLuJe; 05-23-2020 at 07:56 PM. |
