I'm really really sorry to come back with this stupid beginner questions, but I really need help. I don't understand what I see.
I followed your instruction on macOS, and downloaded the ZIP package of KOreader then macOS install scrip archive. Now, in my Mac folder "téléchargement (download)", I have: install.command kfm_mac_install.zip KOReader-v2020.02 KOREADER-v2020.02.zip I clicked on install.command script (Right Click > Open > Then click Open in the GateKeeper popup), and I see the same image as your screen-shot image. But I don't see any on-screen instruction. Only think I see in the box is : Last Login: (date and ti me) on console MacBook-Air: (my name)/Users/(my name)/Downloads/install.command;exit; * Here are the available packages: 0:KOReader-v2020.02.zip *Enter the number correspondint to the one you want to install: What am I supposed to do? What number do I put? I'm really sorry to disturb you again, but my computer literacy is null. I learned email at age 27, texte message at age 41, no english native speaker, never had tablet, trying to use a E-reader for the first time. And I have to install KReader as soon as possible to start reading articles in PDF to advance my research. Thank you for your understanding, patience and help. |

These 3rd party packages are great as an alternative, but if you're having problems figuring out how to install them you'll find a higher barrier if/when the specific program fails or crashes. |

Thank you pazos for reply.
Where do I put the cursur to press 0? I started all over again. Here is what I did: 1- I downloaded fils, and had following files on my Mac "download" folder: install.command kfm_mac_install.zip KOReader-v2020.02 KOREADER-v2020.02.zip 2- Since I don't have "Extract to" on my Mac, I copy-pasted KOReader-v2020.02 and install.command to Kobo, which appears on the left side of Finder. 3- I right-clicked, and clicked on "Open" on the icon "install-command" I see the same images as shown in the instruction, but still there is no on-screen instruction to follow. Instead, it sais: Last login: Thu Feb 27 16:46:34 on ttys000 MacBook-Air:~ mikakotsuchigahata$ /Volumes/KOBOeReader/install.command ; exit; No supported packages found in the current directory (/Volumes/KOBOeReader)! logout Saving session... ...copying shared history... ...saving history...truncating history files... ...completed. [Opération terminée] 4- I ejected & unplugged Kobo. Something happens, but I see "Unknown author, and there are many files (14pages) In "Manage Downloads", I see 71 items (311KB) of imported items that were not there initially. I see nowhere KOReader. Is this normal? Where am I supposed to see ? I understand your point: if I encounter a crash, I'll certainly not be able to solve problems. But I need e-reader very badly to read tons of PDF articles comfortably without having problem with eyes and head. I read that Kindle has better system to read PDF without installing supplementary application like KOReader. Is that true? I spent days to read reviews/watch youtube before making a choice. If it's really better and easier with Kindle, I'll return Kobo. Please advice, it'd be appreciated. Thank you. |

Thank you for your reply.
I understand your point, but I need E-reader to read tons of articles in PDF as if I read on a paper (read, underline, highlight, etc) without having pains in my eyes and head. Before I see your advice, I tried again from the beginning. But this time, I put files (KOReader-v2020.02 and install.command) on Kobo. I followed the instruction. I came to the step where I see the same images as screen shot images shown in the instructions. But I still don't see any on-screen instruction as NiLuJe's instruction sais. Instead, a box with the following message appears: Last login: Thu Feb 27 17:27:25 on ttys000 MacBook-Air:~ mikakotsuchigahata$ /Volumes/KOBOeReader/install.command ; exit; No supported packages found in the current directory (/Volumes/KOBOeReader)! logout Saving session... ...copying shared history... ...saving history...truncating history files... ...completed. [Opération terminée] I ejected and unpluged Kobo. I see on Kobo "Importing... ", then I see "Unknown Author" that contains many documents. I don't find anywhere "KOReader". I read that Kindle is not bad to read PDF. Is that true? I googled for days to read reviews and youtube before chosing Kobo. But if Kindle enables to read/highlight PDF and read library book (usually, it's not possible), I'll return Kobo and buy Kindle. If you could advice, it'll be very appreciated. Thank you very much, and sorry again. |

1. Don't do that from the device itself, it's a terrible idea.
2. Try reading what's shown on your screen? Quote:

Thank you for your answer.
- 1. Don't do that from the device itself, it's a terrible idea. I'm confused. Device=Kobo? When I download, the zip file goes to the folder "Download (télépchargements)" in my MacAir. I opend the zip file, and the opened file is in the same folder. From there, I copied-pasted the opened file in KOBO folder. I repeated the same thing for "install" zip file. So, these two unzipped files are in the same folder of KOBO not in my Mac. Isn't that correct to do? 2- Try reading what's shown on your screen? I read that, I guess, it means that the application (Koreader) is not installed in the device (Kobo), is that right? But I see these two files that I downloaded in Kobo folder (Kobo is connected to Mac, and so I see KOBO folder in Mac Finder) 3- DRM means KOReader/Plato won't be of any help on the library books front. I see, but I don't use Koreader to read library books. I chose Kobo, because it's made to be compatible to read library books unlike Kindle, plus, I can comfortably read PDF by installing Koreader even though original system of Kobo is not so good to read PDF. That's what I learned from reviews. I still don't get the solution to install KOreader. Thank you all for advices and sorry again to disturb you. |

(Please disregard my previous message #260)
Thank you for your answer. - 1. Don't do that from the device itself, it's a terrible idea. I'm confused. Your instruction sais, "Directly extract the ZIP archive you've just downloaded to the root directory of your device" Device=Kobo, isn't it? When I download, the zip file goes to the folder "Download (télépchargements)" in my MacAir. I don't have "Extract to" in my Mac. So, I opend the zip file by clicking twice, and the opened file appears in the same folder. From there, I copied-pasted the opened file to KOBO folder. I repeated the same thing for "install" zip file. So, these two unzipped files are in the "same folder" of KOBO, not in my Mac. Isn't that correct to do? 2- Try reading what's shown on your screen? Plus, I can comfortably read PDF by installing Koreader even though Kobo's original system is not so good to read PDF. That's what I learned from reviews. I still don't get the solution to install KOreader. Feel really stupid. Thank you all for advices and sorry again to disturb you. |

@mtsucci
Please consider that free support here is purely driven by motivation, and motivation is driven by interest. Your questions aren't related to issues with koreader or one-click packages, so I would expect little interest in helping you fixing your issues beyond pointing to the right install instructions and anwser specific questions. Please consider analogic help, in the form of a friend or a computer IT guy that can install KOReader in your device for a little fee. In both cases it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to do the whole thing. |

@mtsucci:
1. Not for the script. Again, you're mixing the two sets of instructions. ---- i.e., it's really as simple as that. (Because, yes, apparently we've reached the lowest depth of content creation on the internet: the video tutorial >_<"). Last edited by NiLuJe; 02-28-2020 at 01:42 PM. |

Thank you so much for taking time to make this video!!! That was totally different from what I understood from the written instruction. It really helped. Installaton done in 3 minutes! On kobo, I see Kobo guide. I should be able to figure out how to use it.

I read in this thread that the install won’t affect patches, however, I just want to double-check that this also applies to the patch labelled “dangerous”? I’m on 4.15129 and have a patch preventing the device from auto-downloading and installing firmware updates. The patch download said to be cautious.

What exactly is the patch labeled dangerous? Are you in the right topic?

I’m in the right topic but perhaps not asking the right people. Want to know if I can safely download Koreader and Plato despite having it enabled.
Here's the info from the libnickel file: Block WiFi firmware upgrade: - Enabled: yes - Description: | WARNING! THIS IS A DANGEROUS PATCH! READ THE INFORMATION BELOW CAREFULLY! THIS PATCH IS UNTESTED, as there is no way to be sure it still works until the next firmware version is released. If it works then the firmware will not be upgraded during a WiFi sync, but you will still be able to upgrade manually or by syncing with the Kobo desktop. THIS PATCH COULD RESULT IN A BOOT LOOP when signing out of your Kobo account (Settings > Accounts > Sign out) or when invoking a factory reset from the device information menu (Settings > Device information > Factory reset). REMOVE THIS PATCH BEFORE USING EITHER OF THOSE OPTIONS. A factory reset invoked using the hardware methods (such as holding down the light button while switching on) should not be affected. - FindReplaceString: Find: "UpgradeCheck/%1/%2/%3/%4/%5" Replace: "UpgradeCheck/%1/%2/k/99.9/5" |

@yur: The description covers everything you need to know about why this specific patch is flagged as such.
Other than that, this is completely orthogonal to *any* patches, so, no, it's not an issue. |
