The general consensus seems to be "just use a throwaway email". That'd be my recommendation, as I have no idea if said third-party instructions for fake registrations are up to date (nor do I particularly care, as I actually use my Kobo account

Also, don't bother with a full SD backup (unless you want it for other reasons). It's more trouble than it's worth, an everything here can be undone with a full reset. |

How to prevent Nix from scanning hidden files
I had to reinstall koreader and now my kobo shows all those hidden files as books to read.
I don't understand how I am supposed to ''tweak'' my congif before i unplug my devices. Can you precise this please? |

@noeuds: That quote happens to be a link in the OP. Read it. As well as the stuff linked there. Yes, it's a rabbit hole on purpose, to give the maximum amount of context.
Alternatively, use the script, it'll do that as part of the process. |

Hmm, I just used the linux install script in post 2 to install both plato and koreader. The script said it disabled hidden directory scanning.
But now I see 150 books which all are some seemingly unrelated icons. Apparently that has not worked. How do I get rid of this clutter now? If I just tell the kobo to delete them then the menu icons from the programs are missing, right? |

@lazyreadr: On which FW version is that?
The script double-checks the config edit, so if you're saying that it went fine, and yet it's ineffective, the only logical explanation would be that you're running the one single FW release that started scanning hidden directories, but didn't yet support that config entry... (Also: no, don't do anything from within Nickel, as that will trigger deletion of those files, which we kinda need ![]() |

I have in the meantime checked the .kobo/Kobo/Kobo_something.conf file and somehow the mod did not make it into this file (despite the installer giving no error and saying so). I put it in manually now, but the 150 icons are in the database. What is the best way to remove it from outside Nickel then? Reset the account again? |

@lazyreadr: Huh. Next question then:
* On which distro is that? * Were you using the latest install script (I would assume so, but, who knows ^^). * Was the device unmounted properly? ---- As far as your next steps are concerned, the idea is basically similar to this post, except you can skip the first bullet point, so, roughly: * Plug * Make sure the config file has been edited with the exclude regex. * Eject/Unplug * Watch Nickel destroy the offending icons (keep the comment about there being no clear way to follow the progress of that operation in mind). * Reinstall KOReader/Plato Last edited by NiLuJe; 12-27-2019 at 04:01 PM. |

Install script from 26. dec 2019 from 1st post Yes, I did eject it. But I have to say I had a gotcha with a corrupted database 2-3 days ago despite ejecting as well, so something may be iffy here with it. I fixed the problem now by 1. Deleting whole sqlite DB 2. Reinstalling all with the script 3. Checked (and removed 1 extra) config line. Now I had one extra to the one I added lately after the fact. 4. sync; sync; wait 10s; sync; eject 5. Relogin to account. So far works and extra icons are gone. |

Huh. Let's chalk it up to USBMS Gremlins then.
Random info: you don't have to bother with the duplicate config entry, Qt5 will sanitize the config properly all on its own. Which is why the script simply appends to the end of file instead of having to implement proper INI parsing. On the other hand, this confirmed that the script did behave properly after all, so, there's that ^^. |

I successfully install the Koreader but and I can see the Koreader.png and Kfmon.png files. However, when I click Koreader file, it just show the Koreader picture, not the application. FW 4.19 with the latest Koreader zip file. What is the possibility of this error? Can someone help? Thanks.

From the state of your original, unedited message (i.e., PWD being Windows' System32 folder o_O), I'm going to go with: PEBCAK.
I don't know what, exactly, but you probably did something wrong somewhere ;p. So, first things first: on the final reboot (i.e., dots on a white background), did you see a "[KFMon] Successfully initialized ![]() Feel free to force a hard-reboot to check again ![]() |
