I know, but if this was a bug, I would assume that Amazon had fixed it a long time ago. I think they overlooked it, because they are probably using some sort of browser engine to render the book. Most browser engines fall back to the font set as default when the one in font-family is not available; and the Kindle's default is apparently Caecilia. The Kindle, at least mine, seems to ignore its own font-settings as soon as font-family for the body text is set.

I got a nag email from Amazon that my current K4PC will stop working on september 15th (was on version 1.10.something) and that I should download and install 1.11.0 and later which are still free. Followed the link to install the latest (in my case that was 1.12.2 build 40996) and works same as the old version. Didn't have to extract a key again, and books with advanced typesetting download as AZW3 files which dedrmed just fine with tools 6.1.0 as plugin for calibre 2.30.0. I see no reason at all to upgrade the tools or calibre until KFX format (dedrm and convert in calibre) is supported. |

Handling KFX in Calibre could be problematic because it's a multi-file format, and Calibre assumes that a book is a single file. The various file comprising a book would perhaps need to be zipped up (in a similar way to HTMLZ) to be handled by Calibre.

Bad news... The current version of Kindle for PC handles KFX files and if you get them, you'll not be able to remove the DRM (if any) nor will you be able to convert them. So stick with a version Kindle for PC that does not contain Bookerly.

FWIW, That is probably good news for people attempting to reverse engineer the kfx drm format, as the number of reverse engineering tools, disassemblers, and debuggers, etc, is much greater on a desktop platform.

Ditto for me.
Have Bookerly support in latest K4PC, downloaded test ebook sample, received azw3, no DRM differences. Only differences seems to be using specially provided Bookerly fonts. No new format .kfx (JSWolf) Jon please provide steps to replicate with K4PC. |

The only snag you would hit is that a file can't be immediately used should you pluck it straight out of Calibre's library file system, but then again, 'oficially' you're not supposed to do that anyway. |

Do you per chance know which version of K4PC is the first that supports KFX, or the latest one that does not support it? I have the K4PC installer, but I haven't updated the application in a long time, so it won't be the latest non-KFX version. I hate DRM. I'm glad I've been acquiring ebooks as fast as I can now that they are still de-DRM-able. I have 700 books or so, 56 Delphi Classics, and a huge amount of Feedbooks' public domain catalog (thanks to me discovering their storage pattern some time ago and being able to download all those books automatically... but they obviously have changed it since). This will probably serve me for the rest of my life, provided I'm not going to read books written after 2015... Last edited by Katsunami; 08-29-2015 at 05:14 PM. |

This is strange. What is the latest version?
OldVersion.com says it's 1.40, jumping up from 1.10.5 build 40382.When I go to the Amazon site, I get 1.12 build 40996 when downloading. Here is a list on FileHippo, where the last non 1.12 version seems to be 1.11.2 Build 40666. Edit: I have installed this version: 1.11.2 build 40666. I can't set fonts anywhere in the application as far as I can see, and Bookerly is not on my system. This version of K4PC was released somewhere in 2015. Does anyone have a newer 1.11.x version? How can you check this?
I can't even set a font in 1.11.2 build 40666 or I'm not looking right... |
