okay, steps I've taken are
SD Card\Sony Reader\database... renamed cache.xml to .bak

Internal Memory\Sony Reader\dataabse...renamed media.xml + cache.xml to .bak

run fix file system errors on both drives.

removed the Internal Memory Tmp folder (to desktop)

Allow the device to rebuild all items.

Launch Calibre

Connect device.

But I'm still getting a corrupt database error. Any Ideas all?

I cant even transfer files via Calibre any more
Just look at my library...

Did windows find any errors?

Maybe you have there "a broken book", which breaks the book scanner, so that broken media.xml file is created?

If you'd post the media.xml file it would help.

I don't know what that is.

Did try it without the SD card in place?

Righto, I fixed it.

Thanks for your quick replies though Kartu

I uninstalled Calibre, I was on an older .24 build.
removed all the files mentioned again, let the device rebuild.
Restarted my computer, and plugged the device back in then re-installed Calibre .37 build.

And Bingo. The correct combination.

Although I'm not sure why that worked, Calibre wasn't running while I wasn't trying to sync, or while I was rebuilding the xml.

I guess there MIGHT have been a library mismatch?, I read someone else got a corrupted dataabse that way in a search.

Anyway I'm fixed. Super happy.

As an extra bonus my reader at first lost all my tags, then froze ont he USB connect screen when I disconnected after adding ym tags back on again.

Oh the love of it all....but it does drive me mad. I'm syncing until the red light goes green again. got a psp charger ordered to help me out in situations like this!.

how do I check the internal memory for File system errors?, via explorer?
I've been getting quite a few of these corrupted database issues also. I also use Calibre and PRS+. Not sure what the cause. I usually have to reformat the internal memory. I'm not exactly sure what that does because my books are still there after the format. Deleting the media.xml never fixes it for me.

Guys, you scare me.

1) What are the "tags" you've mentioned?
2) How do you reformat internal memory, edbro? using Calibre? Because if you do it using Sony, I have no idea how your books located in internal memory could have survived that operation, since it gets literary formatted, deleting all the content.

---------------------------------------------------------

As this is a serious issue, I'll install calibre and try to reproduce the problems. Have you noticed what sequence of actions is likely to lead to the mentioned problem?

Well, I'm not sure I'm even formatting it correctly. I used the "Format Internal Memory" function in the advanced section of the Reader. However, when I do it, I get one of the triangles after a while and that stays there until I hit the menu button. Then the reader resets. Afterwards, my books are still there but my saved position in the book is not. It will then communicate with Calibre correctly.

I haven't noticed any set procedure that will trigger this. Nine times out of 10 it works fine. I never have a problem using the reader, only a problem trying to sync with Calibre. I don't have the Sony software installed at all. Mind you, I'm not pointing the finger at PRS+, I'm just adding my experience to the list.

Hm, aren't you supposed to press "bookmark" button, when you see that warning triangle? Or you do it and nothing happens?

I'd try to contact calibre authors on this.

I press the Mark button when it tells me to after selecting to reformat. It is after that that I get the triangle. I don't think it is a Calbre problem. I have posted this in the troubleshooting forum.

well I've got to be honest, I'm not about to format anything unless its a last solution.

By 'Tags' I mean the column within Calibre that allows you to add 'tags' which are recognised as Collections on the device.

I seem to rememer that this method is different than the Sony Library software which creates collections in a different manner.

There is no way (without modifying the firmware/scripts) to create collections in a different manner than Sony does (or they won't be recognized as such by the reader). Calibre could store additional information in its own format, out there somewhere, but... I don't see any such data on my ebook.

I'm not sure if im being unlucky here but after charging via the usb cable for a while my device reset, and my drives popped up in explorer, but none of the buttons work on the device now. Stuck at the menu. Up down, power off, menu etc. all dont respond. I can still sync so I've backed up the internal drive content. So how do I format and start again without buttons?

Sounds like a hardware problem (nearly dead battery?), but to disable PRS+ simply rename/delete the following folder in internal memory: /database/system/PRSPlus

just a little update, I got my reader back to functional. I didn't have to format but I did have to recover using the 'brick' method found in the wiki.

I didn't have to uninstall anything and I seem to be back to square one with my device library and PRS+

Im just not confident enough to sync with Calibre yet, and danger another frozed device.

I'm going to try and re-organise my collection via explorer and use folders instead of collections, that way I can transfer via drag and drop and tag using a different software.

A shame, but I understand that these things happen.
