Hi, I have a question concerning prs+ on the 950. Tried searching through the thread, but couldn't find any clear answer...
I've come to understand that prs+ enables file download through the browser. Does this mean that it is possible to buy books from other sellers or sites? Or only files that are accessible without a login, which leaves out book stores? (I'm still undecided between buying a used 950 or a t1, and one point is question is the ability to buy books directly from the reader from other sellers than sony) |

But I am lost with this talk of Visual Studio 2008. There is a folder on the computer called "Microsoft Visual Studio" already, but I'm guessing it is pre-2008. I found this page: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudi...itions/express Will downloading one of these items solve my problem, and if so which one? Thank you! Repost from the other thread: Make sure the reader is plugged into a USB slot directly on the PC and not through any type of hub, they often won't show certain devices. Also try a slot at the back of the PC if the front isn't working. It might be a simple solution.

I tried all the USB ports; I'm not using a hub. The 350 shows up fine in Windows, but the PRS+ installer can't seem to find it

Tell me, what drives you find additional to harddrive C: and your reader. Your PC should show your hard drive with letter C: Then in most cases DVD with letter D: So, please list your drives and their letters: Like: harddrive C: DVD D: Reader (installer) E: Reader F: ... A. |

OK, that could be a solution:
Remove your Memory Stick on E: Plug in your reader. It could/would be fine to make Reader on E: Once I have had such problem and so far I can remember this was the solution. But I'm not 100% sure... Try it A. |

Unfortunately, there's no memory stick in the slot. It's an empty slot. (The DVD/CD-RW is empty, too.)
I believe the computer is running Visual Studio 2006, and a previous post by Kartu indicates you need Visual Studio 2008 (see my original post above). I have found a free download for Visual Studio 2008 Express that includes: - Visual Basic - Visual C# - Visual C++ - Visual Web Developer. I am hesitant to install new software unless I know it will actually help. Any idea if any of these will do the trick, if so, which one? Thx! Last edited by pssquirrel; 08-25-2012 at 07:02 PM. |

Hm, ...
I guess the (empty slot for) the Memory Stick is the problem. Not the Visual Studio. It is not necessary to install a visual studio so far as i know. If any then just a view files. If drive letter for the memory stick is AFTER the letter of the reader it could work. But that is just guessing. Kartu? A. Edit: of course it is possible to change the drive letter of the memory stick. Isn't that complicated... |

@pssquirrel,
I don't know whether reordering the drive letters so the Reader is the first one will work, but if you need to reassign drive letters on a Windows XP SP3 PC, you can do it via: Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Computer Management then select Storage - Disk Management wait a bit for the PC to scan all the drives and you'll see a list in the top window. Right-click the drive whose letter you want to change and select 'Change Drive Letter' from the menu and use the 'Change' button and assign a new letter from the available list. Repeat for however many drives you need to change. |

You don't have to install Visual Studio, that's just for developers. The redistributable needed is probably this one: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...s.aspx?id=5582 |

Buying books on PC
I don't know if this is relevant, but you can buy books in the more "usual" way via PC, download them to the PC via that setup, then copy the files to the Reader for PRS to "find" there.
I do that as simple direct file copy with O'Reilly books rather easily since they do not use DRM. For books with DRM as from Kindle, Barnes & Noble, and Sony, you would need to access them from a Windows PC (in my experience - I have not found a Linux solution such as I would prefer) with Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) installed after setting it up with access to your DRM'ed accounts and the Sony Reader on the PC. Then, when you attach the Reader to the PC, you can use ADE to copy the books (still encrypted with DRM as I understand it) to the Reader. Or you can search on how to decrypt, and copy directly to the Reader or its SD card if you have a model with a removable card. HTH |

Argh! This Windows machine continues to thwart me.
@jackie_w: Thanks for the instructions. Unfortunately, when I attempted to reassign the drive letters, I got "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager Service." @quisvir: Huge thanks for the link (so glad I didn't attempt to install Visual Studio). Unfortunately, when I tried to install the redistributable, I was told I don't have administrator privileges! Nevertheless, I really appreciate both your help.
