I hate to sound like a total loser, but I'm not sure about these steps:

1) Copy "database" folder from the release archive to internal memory (you should get /database/system/PRSPlus.js file and /database/system/PRSPlus-addons folder)
2) Download and extract my version of igorsk's flasher http://prs-plus.googlecode.com/files/flasher-igorsk.zip (remove any existing before you do it) to your SD card
3) Copy new_opt.img from release archive to SD card root
4) Disconnect the reader

1 -- From what "database" folder do I copy? There's not one in the zip file I downloaded.
3 -- From where do I copy "new_opt.img" I can't find it anywhere either.

I did the upgrade to my 500, but this one has me stumped.

I have no idea whether this is possible or not (I don't know how much control you actually have) but if you plan to integrate pepak's hack to expose the userStyle.css file to user memory, is it possible to create a menu that has options to create/alter this file?

Eg, have the ability to change font, margins etc etc. from a menu directly on the 505, and have the appropriate styles automagically added/altered in the userStyle.css file, so that even Jo Blogg can have the ability to customize their epub reading experience to their taste without knowing any CSS whatsoever.

Doable, though certainly not something for the first release. Will probably make more sense when(/if) I add additional fonts support.

One thing I've noticed, when running the reader library software, although it sees the SD card okay, it gives an "error" for the Sony reader itself. It also suggests I need to register it. (It has been registered already) What's more re-registering it still doesn't fix it. (Mind you I use Calibre mainly anyway.)

I actually don't use sony library at all (it doesn't work on my bloody Vista anyway), but that's quite strange.
Did you switch between different versions of firmware? I.e. UK -> US etc? Would be interesting to try to disable PRS+ scripts (just rename the main file: PRSPlus.js to something else) and check if that resolves the problem.

Well renaming didn't make any difference, so it's probably not anything to do with the mods which I really like

It used to work okay with the old "reader" software but it hasn't worked since it "upgraded" itself.

I was only going to see how well the new "reader" software worked, but clearly in my case it doesn't... (I've uninstalled installed, uninstalled rebooted installed rebooted tried to re-register etc etc, still comes up with "error")

Back to ADE & Calibre then

Yes, if you use the .noscan file to prevent scanning of external memory.

You can do this even with standard firmware - just open your book, go to Utilities and choose Delete Book.

You can flash right away - it will downgrade your reader to US 18040, though.

Just so that everyone understands what might and what might not happen. Sony's updater normally updates entire firmware (let's call it RootFS (/) and FSK (/opt)). Hacks, including PRS+ only replace FSK (/opt). SOME versions of RootFS are reported to have problems with SOME versions of FSK. The problem is, nobody bothered to create a compatibility list, so users still have to rediscover the problems themselves.

According to boroda the only difference between US 18050 & 18040 is the version number. Probably UK version isn't much different. Anyway, if something goes wrong, you simply reflash it to other version.
