Question: Is there a way to force FFF to generate a new cover when there is already a generated cover?
Settings are the same as described in this post except that I now have "Update EPUB Cover" enabled in the update dialog. Some of my older fics with no cover images still have the default GC cover (Calibre stacked books) embedded because I forgot to polish the site-based covers in after generating them. FFF retrieves the embedded stacked-books covers after I update one of those fics (either to add a new chapter, or to update the title page/add a TOC page). I expected that "update EPUB cover" would generate a new one but it didn't. Thank you. Last edited by ownedbycats; 07-22-2020 at 11:54 AM. |

Sounds to me like you need to fix those covers outside FFF and polish them into the epubs or change your FFF settings and do 'update always' on those before changing back.
Some trial and error will likely be involved. |

I've been re-generating the covers and polishing them in, but I'm not actually sure which of them have mismatched covers without opening them all. I thought there was an option in Calibre (or a plugin) somewhere to set the Calibre cover to the embedded ePub one but I can't figure out where it went.
EDIT: Found it. It was in the bulk metadata edit dialog. Last edited by ownedbycats; 07-22-2020 at 12:30 PM. |

That's practically an identical error to this issue.
That one I declared to be an author error in the HTML. But the two are so very nearly identical, it might be something the site is doing instead. OTOH, the author note that caused the problem in the first case isn't there anymore... Does anyone have further examples from royalroad.com of failed chapters? Or examples of chapter pages with valid URLs in the author note? |

I haven't seen any other cases - this is the only time that happened.
It is downloading fine now; put in the settings you linked to in case it happens again. Thanks. |

Can be an option to get the fic with translation by google?
This in English: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9715243...l-G%C3%A9nesis or other one in Spanish for example. In the example above with this url https://translate.google.com/transla...l-G%C3%A9nesis we can access to the fic with translation, but the plugin does not get link from there. Sorry for my english, i'm spanish. Last edited by DnK; 07-25-2020 at 04:34 PM. |

That's an interesting idea.
My first thought (that the same adapter code used by FFF to read sites could be pointed at Google's translated page) doesn't work. Google Translate doesn't generate the full page, it uses javascript to only translate each block of text as it comes into view. And it changes the HTML rather a lot. I'm not interested in trying to implement translation in FFF, but I suspect that it's possible to implement a separate plugin using something like googletrans that will translate an ebook. I bet such a plugin could be quite popular if someone wanted to write one. |

Hello~ I've been digging into customizing my personal.ini to get AO3 epubs to look how I want, but...
1) Is it possible to customize the story output, the way you can customize the title page using titlepage_start? I made some tweaks via CSS, but is there a default for the whole main story output to add to personal.ini like I did for the title page? 2) Not sure if it would make more sense to do this with FFF metadata or the Calibre template language... but basically I want the relationship as normal in one metadata field, but I also want a field (or just code that returns) a version shortened to just the first name of each name in the ship. For example, if the AO3 ship is John Doe/Jim Smith, I want to have that but also a way to shorten it to John/Jim (for cover-generating purposes). Thanks for any help. |

1) There's a wiki page on custom output that covers what's available in FFF. Just be careful changing chapter_start, you can break parts of epub update if you remove/change the metadata tags.
2) You could do that in FFF with replace_metadata, but it's complicated. If you want it specifically for cover generation and you know how to do Calibre template language already that may be easier. |

1) Ohh, sorry, that page is where I got the titlepage info from, but I misunderstood that "chapter" there also refers to the whole story when it has just a single chapter.
2) Ah yeah I suspected it might be easier just using the template language, but I only know basics so far. I'll keep digging (but if anyone reading this knows how to return the first word of each name separated by a slash, help much appreciated...) |

This is a little weird. I've used FFF to download books from fanfiction.net and literotica.com.
When I search in the Viewer in flow mode, the result navigates to the top of the chapter containing the word, but not the precise location of the word. This issue affects only books from literotica. Books from fanfiction, or even normal epubs are not affected. I'm running Calibre 4.21 and FFF 3.21. This issue affected every book in Calibre 4.12, but was fixed in 4.14, according to the changelog. I've uninstalled FFF, installed it again, downloaded a new book to see if it affects only old books; nothing made a difference. |
