If 7zip won't decompress it, there's a chance the file got corrupted on the download. Try downloading it again. 7zip should be able to decompress it for you.

Turn the Craig off with the switch. Then hold down the Menu and Power buttons while you plug it into the USB. Your computer should detect it without it having to boot up, and it should go into the correct mode. You won't see the Craig turn on, but it will be accessible as a drive from your computer.

i just tried that but it goes to the normal homescreen with the same message and does not show up on my computer, when do i need to start pressing the buttons and how long do i hold them

Sorry. I goofed. It should be Home + Power. Hold them down while you're plugging in the device. You should hear a "ding" kind of sound almost immediately, but hold them down until you see the computer recognizing the Craig.

Point it to the RKUtils directory. I think it's in there. But I think you should be able to see the device as a drive without it. Is it showing up on your computer?

That's exactly what mine is doing. I emailed Craig and this is what they emailed back "If its an error that read similar to android.process.acore, please follow the steps found in the warranty section of the owner’s manual and send it to us. We will reinstall the firmware in the device."

Not much help from them.

i figured it out. i had to install a few things though. here are the links:

first install both and move to an easy to get to place. you also need software to unzip them:
go to 7-zip.org to install the software and use it to extract both files.

now go into the unzipped RKUtils folder, then RKAndroidBatchUpgrade, then click the application RKAndroidBatchUpgrade

once you open the program look at the setting area and click the dotted box and find the cmp file that you downloaded, it should be an .img file
click on that and click upgrade at the bottom of the RK upgrader and it should do the rest for you. that file that you found also has the driver software needed to recognize the file for different windows versions.

thanks for leading me in the right direction, i have done everything you said but i still cannot download apps from the android market. any ideas?
