mysteryoustrvlr: you could always try and make your own pattern if you can't find one probably way beyond my abilities to be honest! While I was deciding which Oberon cover to get (and then waited for it to arrive via a friend in NY) I made a quick DIY sleeve with some bubble wrap, strong cardboard and tape, then (badly) sewed a fabric envelope and asked my mum to embroider it in colours matching the skin on my Kindle

The lighted cover do not appear to have this problem as the clips drain through the light as they should.
Which cover was this I wonder if this caused my screen to go defective?

I have just received the MEdge Jacket with the new mounted system and I love it. The kindle is very firmly held in place, and the mounting system just disappears. It gives a great clean look to the kindle as I really do not like anything with straps. I dont mind the hinge system, but this new mounting system really works for me. Now, they need to improve their colour selection, and if this is available for the new "design your own" covers, I am going to be first in line to buy. Highly recommend this new mounting system.

Are you talking about the M-Edge Latitude with a Molded Mounting System? If so, I'm glad you like it

I've been wanting one for a while, but I want to wait until they sell it on Amazon because of their trusty customer support.

I believe that MEdge has zippered cases and Patagonia. There are some hand made covers on ecty (I know I have that wrong but am hoping others know what I am talking about and correct it) that are zippered.

I was hoping to find a pattern so I can customize one for myself. Does anyone know if a pattern exists for a zippered case pattern? The kind that is similar to zippered book covers they made for paperback books back in the day. You could zip open the cover and read your book with the cover still on and when you were done, bookmarked it and zipped it back up. It protected your book when the case was closed.

Hoping to make one like this for my Kindle and wondering if there was a pattern out there anyone can point me to?

Thank you!
Ivy
Ivy, I make several different Kindle cases/covers and I've yet to find a pattern for one that zips all the way around. On About.com there are instructions to make a Bible cover that zips around, maybe could be adapted for a Kindle, but it's not really what I'm looking for. M-edge sells some cases that zip like that and can be folded back for reading, have you looked at them?

I too got a custom cover made here in India. kindle original cover seemed way too expensive to me, plus it didnt fold back easily, so was a pain to use too.

Tried out getting a kindle cover from dealextreme, in hope that it might be better. but still that wasn't kinda satisfactory as the inside material was kinda velvetly which i didnt seem to like much, plus it was rexin and not real leather on the outside. Kinda has a cheapo feel to it.

So went around Kolkata, sourced a bit of leather, and handed over to a local guy my original kindle cover + the leather.

The first attempt he made something that didnt work out, but second one was prety good job. here are the pics

(The pebble grain finish cover is the original amazon leather cover, the other one is the one locally made. Just had both in frame for comparisions.)

I couldn't source the pebble grain leather used for kindle cover, so got the local plain black ones and added a thin sponge layer between the leather and the board.

used four corner straps to hold it in place. They were made a bit thicker, which causes it to cover the unlock switch and the navipad key, but well, I felt that was better than using a thin strap and risking the kindle falling out.

the original kindle cover wouldn't fold back easily, so opted to have no board on the side, to allow easily folding back of front cover.

And the bottom line, all this cost me about 12-14 dollars to make using real leather

Talking Kindle Cover Dilemmas!

I bought myself a Kindle 3, and ordered a DecalGirl skin for it, then realised with dismay that all the covers I fancied - the Tuff-Luv Antique, for instance - would almost completely obscure the gorgeous skin if I left the Kindle in the case when using it, which is kind of the idea with that 'book-type' case.
I havered madly for a week, torn between unsatisfying alternatives, and in the meantime, I kept my Kindle in an A5 Jiffy Bag-type postal envelope padded with bubble wrap and fastened with a small bulldog clip at the top.
I spent a few days experimenting with the whole cut-a-hole-in-a-book DIY approach, but didn't like the results, though someone with more patience could make a fabulous hard cover from one of the PaperBlanks notebooks. Those things are lush!
Then, gradually, light began to dawn. I spotted a crystal case made by Tuff-Luv which would allow the full glory of my DecalGirl skin to shine through (it's the 'Before the Storm' one, if anybody wants to know), and ordered it. It arrived neck and neck with the skin, and I decorated and protected my lovely Kindle in one satisfying half hour. I really can recommend the Decalgirl skins, they're astoundingly easy to use, and truly are repositionable even after being rubbed down, with a bit of care.
So I looked at my little post-bag Kindle case, and thought, well, why not? So off I went to the local charity shops (thrift shops to you US Kindlers) to find a garment or two I could cut up and use to decorate the envelope. One chenille jumper (sweater) and a silk/viscose shell top later, and I was in business. As I am sans sewing machine at the moment, I had to do a bit of hand sewing, which with my skills means that things are a tad clunky and imprecise in places, but I basically sewed an envelope-sized, er, envelope from the jumper, stuck double-sided tape all over the outside of the postal envelope, inserted it into its woolly sleeve and pressed it all down to my satisfaction. Then made a 'flap' from the exuberantly-bobbly collar of the jumper, lined it with the orange-red silky viscose (a bit more hand sewing, and in hindsight, I should have inserted some stiffening, maybe even the original card envelope flap), and used my hot glue gun to stick it to the back panel of the woolly sleeve (I had had my fill of sewing at this point).
I braided some canvas-work wool in toning colours to make a loop, and sewed it to the flap. Covered the attachment point with a little brass button I had in my box with 'Ladybird' written on it - thought that was a nice touch, as Ladybird Books are well-loved children's books here in the UK - and added a horn toggle to finish the fastening. Another time, I might go for an elasticated loop. I may yet add a couple more buttons to disguise the slightly improvised top corner glueing, and perhaps a line of braid or ribbon across the top with a carrying loop or something.
But on the whole I am very happy with how my Kindle Cardi (TM... or soon will be!) has turned out. Pictures attached! (The first photo is closer to the actual colouring, as I used flash)

Kinetikat, you should be proud! I love it when people are so creative in coming up with a cover or case that is uniquely theirs. Good job!

Very well-done.

My only concern with cases with "buttons" (bone fragment or tooth) is that they can present a pressure point against the screen if placed in another carrying case like an attache case or backpack.
