You can drop and break your K3 at home just as easily as you can when out and about. So naked is still a risk even at home.

I never bought one either. I just used an aptly sized one that came in the mail for one of the products that I've purchased. As a plus, it even comes with my address on the label, so a nice person could mail it to me if it gets lost!

Indeed, the Kindle box is quite bulky. Plus it's somewhat conspicuous. If you're walking around, it's like carrying a giant "STEAL ME" sign. A yellow/white envelope could hold anything....

Best regards.
Is it that complicated to use that you need a video on how to use the cover?

You should consider getting a protective skin like this one, if you like to read without a cover. It's practically the same, except it's a lot more secure.

Using the Kindle box seems like a great idea if you just want something to protect it in a back pack or briefcase. I actually did that for the first day until I got my cover.

I'm liking the lighted case. I've always used a book light for reading in bed when my wife is sleeping, and when we're hanging in the family room, with half the family watching a movie with subdued lighting, and the one in the Kindle case is a good one.

If you do go with the used bubble mailer, I'd think the 'odd looks' kranu mentioned might really be taken as conversation starters if you're looking for that. Seems kind of a cool aesthetic combination, like James Bond opening a package from Q.

Really? You dont want to read when the lights are out? It seems every single night when I shut the lights out I get the urge to read a book but its too dark. And since theres only one light here that happens to be relatively bright its either all the light or no light at all. I figure a Kindle light should remedy that problem but Im also aware that often things dont work out the way I had hoped. It wouldnt surprise me if I end up with a glare issue or buying the wrong cover and the light wont work right, for instance. I remember I never used my light for my regular books too, it might be a case like that. Guess Id rather have it lying around just in case. And Im hoping this map case that I mentioned has some space to put it in but Im sure it doesnt.
when the power is NOT out, I have a small subdued bedside lamp. when it IS out, I have a mighty bright light, or a very small flashlight that I rest on my shoulder and it aims in the perfect position

and I could get squashed like a bug going into the supermarket. I've had Kindles for over 3 years now, traveled extensively, camped, skied and gone shooting with my Kindle, sleep with it EVERY night, even in a tent. I have a 185 pound dog, 2 EXTREMELY active and curious Savannah cats that think they need to mess with everything I mess with, have had knee surgery and had to hobble around very carefully, and amazingly enough I still have not one, but two in tact Kindles along with two others that I have used and given away.

caution may dictate wearing a belt AND suspenders, but feels good may dictate nothing a'tall.

This thread reminded me that one of the things I like about the Kindle is that you don't have to give up and just live with the same look. There are hundreds of different looks and you can change the look-and-feel of your Kindle as often as you like. Once you have a little collection of your favorites you can switch them around.

You guys inspired me. My second Kindle cover is on its way. I'm going to try an mEdge to augment the Oberon Celtic Hounds. The mEdge has a completely different character.

Yes. I can't wait to get my hands on it--it's due Tuesday. I had an mEdge several years ago and I liked it.

Anything that has the words 'cover' and includes a video should involve a hammer test.

Thought I'd throw in my tuppence worth. I've had a Kindle since the end of October (2010) and got an Econique hemp cover for it (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eco-Nique-Na.../dp/B003ZUXVSK). It's a nice enough cover, but I'm looking for a replacement for the following reasons:

* I've realised that I don't like covers with the cut-out design, i.e. material dividing the keypad and the screen. It gets slightly in the way of the 4-way and 'Menu' buttons.

* When I use a clip-on booklight, I find that the top strip of the cover casts a shadow on the top line or two of the page.

* The feel isn't particularly book-like.

* I'm shallow. A colleague got an Amazon cover and I've been seeing a lot of them on the train, and they're just far more lovely.

I'm looking at a cheap cover out of necessity, probably one of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/protect...-3-black-49301 If I had £30 to spend, I'd definitely be going for one of those beautiful M-Edge ones, or the Proporta aluminium.

While waiting for my Oberon black roses cover to arrive, I bought an M Edge New Yorker cover..which I do love.

I bought the Library skin from Decalgirl, but don't love it on my white Kindle.

So.......I bought the Mint Argyle skin, but have yet to change it out.

My Oberon cover should arrive today.....WOOT!
