What format books?
Did you get the ss add-in from NiLuJe's snapshots thread? Did you get the Python add-in from NiLuJe's snapshots thread? See: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=225030 for both. How long did you keep the book open? |

The original instruction at Post 1 says "drop a blank file named cover in the linkss folder". This didn't work, and when I was about to ask for some help, I read thirfloornorth post that says "cover folder".
It is working now. Thanks for the great hack. Last edited by nqk; 02-16-2016 at 07:36 AM. |

Just to say for my model (PW high res) the screensavers have to be 1072x1448 and 120 ppp... they says when we reset it 300pp res... don't ask why ^^'
For others in my case who don't know what resolution is their model and have JB it and installed the screensaver hack, just go to the backup folder and check the res of your screensavers ![]() Some probelms: -the picture have to be black and white of course but also 8 bit colors ![]() -I had to manually reboot and add a blanck file named radom and another one named shuffle ![]() I hope it will help someone ![]() |

Hi there i'm having problems getting this to work any help would be much appreciated.
First off i'm on a PW2 UK Serial: 9017. I've just done the 5.6.5 jail break (first time i've jail broken this device incase this is relevant) following MJ52's post in the other thread. Installed KUAL (KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2) didn't install the helper file (but the helper menu shows anyway so i assume this is unnecessary) Installed MRPI Put the "Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.b in" inside the "mrpackages" folder and ran "Install Mr Packages" from the KUAL helper menu Got "the screensavers hack has been successfully installed" when i put it to sleep. All good so far? Put custom screensavers in "linkss" folder used the "restart framework" button in the screen savers menu It restarts, i put the screen to sleep and get my custom image, wake it up, put it back to sleep again and no image is displayed just the text from the book im currently reading. So i figure hmm one of the other images i put in must not be the right format for the hack. I delete them all except the one that was showing the first time. Reset, still doesn't work. So do i need to install python or is that only if you want to display the cover of the book you're currently reading? How do i uninstall the screensaver hack? I've tried putting the "Update_linkss_0.24.N_uninstall.bin" in "mrpackages" and running "install MR packages" but it doesn't get rid of it? Is it supposed to be placed in the root and then run somehow? I sincerely apologise if this has already been answered but i did do a search and couldn't find anything that matched up with my particular circumstances. |

@LinealSoul: Your first guess was correct.
One of your images is badly formatted. It just happens to break the whole cycle completely until it's fixed and the framework restarted (because reasons ;p). And yeah, correct again, you don't need Python if you don't intend to use cover mode. Unless you flag one of my hacks for complete uninstall (through their respective KUAL menus), the uninstall package will *never* delete the folder, because these can (and should ;p) contain user-provided content, which I have no right to annihilate without warning ![]() TL;DR: Everything went according to plan, you just have one (or more) finicky images in your set. @NiLuJe
Thanks for the help. OK so i've uninstalled using the flag for removal. That worked. Reinstalled and placed the NES controller image from this post which you corrected for another user: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...postcount=1684 So it was just that and the "Hack Successful" image in there. Restarted the framework and it still only showed the controller image on first sleep. After that it just shows whatever was on the screen when i locked it. Any other suggestions? |

@LinealSoul:
Works for me (exact same device), so, err, no idea. I can only say that it's the behavior with a broken image somwhere... |

@knc1
Sorry by lock i meant sleep, too used to iDevice terminology. and no it isn't a special offers kindle. Is there anywhere i can find screensavers which are 100% confirmed to work so i can test this again? |

@eschwartz
I have seen this however i'm on Mac so to install imagemagick i need macports which requires xcode. Estimated download time is about 6 hours on my connection. So i figured while that was going i could try an image that someone could confirm works. I just find it a bit odd that with only one image on there, it displays it the first time i sleep but not again. If there was an issue with the file surely it shouldn't display at all? Thank you all for your help. |

You could also try cover mode.
ImageMagick is already on your Kindle, and the SS hack uses it internally to create known-good screensavers from the extracted cover images. (You cold also run the commands on your Kindle, using USBNetwork or kterm.) |
