@Yolina: 1.6MB sounds like *a lot* for a true PNG8, even undithered and at the relatively high PW3 resolution.
If you can, try to process them through ImageMagick like the cover mode does (I linked to my latest post a few pages back, I think). |

Right, I started again from scratch with the image in PS, including re-converting to grayscale, etc and this time the PW3 is happy with it, file size is also much smaller. No idea why the PW2 didn't have a problem with it but the PW3 did.
Thanks all, and sorry about all the hassle ![]() |

Enconding problem in kfxmeta.py
I have KV 5.6.5 with BD jailbreak, with linkss-0.24.N-r12851 (from snapshots). I have problems extracting covers from *some* kfx books, those with some non-ascii char in filename. Ej: Fool’s Errand (The Tawny Man Trilogy, Book 1)_B005JE1KD8.{kfx,sdr} This is an english language book but with a non-ascii tilde in filename.
Running kfxmetada.py manually from command-line, it says: Code:
File "./kfxmeta.py", line 100, in main print('Decoding "%s"' % args.infile) UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe2 in position 28: ordinal not in range(128) Code:
args.infile = args.infile.decode("utf-8") NiLuJe, thanks for your outstandig work! |

@NiLuJe last snapshot is not working in my KV...
Trying kfxmeta.py directly over the metadata file, the problem still shows: Code:
$./kfxmeta.py "/tmp/docs/Fool’s Errand (The Tawny Man Trilogy, Book 1)_B005JE1KD8.sdr/assets/metadata.kfx" /tmp/cache/ KFX Meta v1.1.N Traceback (most recent call last): File "./kfxmeta.py", line 415, in <module> main() File "./kfxmeta.py", line 138, in main print('Decoding "%s"' % infile) UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe2 in position 14: ordinal not in range(128) |

@NiLuJe: although kfxmeta.py perfectly works running from command line, linkss extension still doesn't work on itself. I'm using last snapshot (kindle-linkss-0.24.N-r12903).
Kindle logs only show: Code:
160214:112830 system: I linkss:kh_msg::switched to the reader, trying to extract the cover
160214:112841 system: I linkss:kh_msg::trying to extract cover for B005JE1KD8 . . .
160214:112841 system: W linkss:kh_msg::couldn't extract cover for '/mnt/us/documents/Fool’s Errand (The Tawny Man Trilogy, Book 1)_B005JE1KD8.kfx', aborting...
160214:112841 system: W linkss:kh_msg::failed to extract or convert cover, screensaver will be blank or innacurate
