K5 FW 5.x ScreenSavers Hack - Page 117

Well after reading the past few pages I need a wee bit of help. Hopefully I can be a bit more responsive to the instructions given to me.

I have a PW3 and thanks to NiJule and Branch Delay I was able to get my device jailbroken.

I am running fw 5.6.5
I did the jailbreak *royal PITA BTW*
installed JailBreak-1.14.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.zip
have Kaul up and running
MR Package Installer is installed.

I move Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin to root of kindle eject and unplug update is grayed out and file is missing when I plug it back in. Does there need to be an updated version to be compatible with 5.6.5? I also seem to be unable to find the package installer link to be able to use that. Or have I missed something.

Use KUAL to install those packages.

I made the same mistake earlier.

Good, now use it according to its directions.

Put your packages (as many as you want at one time) in the: /mrpackages folder, rather than the root (that no longer works).
Then go to the KUAL menu entry: 'install packages' (or something like that).

I'm not sure if it works. I use KUAL to install it, and its installed, but every time I try to use it, it doesn't work. It just gets stuck. I converted all my pictures to PNG and it just turns right back on again.

I don't know why it does this, this was an ad supported kindle that I got rid of the ads for. Do the images have to be the exact size? I have no idea how it works. I also deleted the default picture (so I am sure it worked). Is there a reason that this is happening?

do I just put Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin into the extensions folder as well as the Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin??? Then install via app

@Tinkergnome: Depending on which exact variant of the PW3 you have, the current release might not actually pass MRPI's device check.

Try with the current snapshots.

@Nausicaa: Define 'stuck'. And yes, stuff *absolutely* needs to be in the right size/format, c.f., the FAQ.

Kindle Voyage here, on 5.6.5 (Horray for the jailbreak!)

Installed the screensaver KUAL addons via MRpi, which appear to load up A-OK. I've observed it setting some informative screensavers ("Hi, you haven't put any screensavers in yet!"), but I can't for the life of me get the Cover mode to work.

Every book I load, the verbose log at the bottom claims "S W failed to process cover". I tracked down the error message in cover-watchdog-helper, but it just triggers on a non-zero exit code from the cover extract script.

Is there any way to easily enable debug logging saved to the filesystem? I'm adding in some logging in places leading up to the "failed to process cover" message, but it'd be great if there was already more information being kept somewhere.

Got all of the way through the jailbreak, hotfix, KUAL, helper and MRPI steps. When I installed MR Packages (Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin in this case), it got to 100% and rebooted but I was plugged in which I noticed reading later down the post is a no, no.

I have a PW on FW 5.6.5 and the default 'Hi, I'm the screensavers hack' screen does not show when I put the device to sleep.

Update Your Kindle is also grayed out now. I'm not sure where to go from here.

The 'UYK button' grayed out is why your using MrPI - using MrPI isn't an option, its a requirement.

Either way I used MrPI to install the screensavers hack which didn't seem to take.

I should still be able to update to 5.7.2 if I turn Airplane Mode off and the update gets automatically downloaded then in the future?

may i ask how to put the screensaver to full screen i have a mix of 600x800 and 758x1024 images and none of those go full screen

You have the 300dpi PW-3
Use the image magic command given earlier in this thread to re-size the images.

Kindles do not accept any-old graphic image, they need to be in a very specific format.
