Pushed a set of release packages. Mostly making sure FW 5.6.x is handled correctly.

Hi,

Thanks to all those who've helped with creating the great hack.

It's been working for me for a few years and now seems to have stopped. Kindle tells me it's on 5.3.7.3. I presume somehow it's updated itself.

Tried a reinstall, no luck.
Tried an uninstall, and reinstall, no luck.

Any ideas?

Refreshed the packages in the first post with a hotfix for an issue that broke installs when not using MRPI.

Okay, that worked, thanks for the pointers.

For any other Noobs [like me], here's the steps I took the get my screensaver hack back working again:

Hotfix (Presumably, this re-initialised the Jailbreak)
Downloaded, and followed instructions to install:
JailBreak-1.14.N-FW-5.6.x-hotfix.zip

KUAL (Kindle Unified Application Launcher)
Downloaded, and followed instructions to install:
KUAL-v2.5.zip

That's done the trick for me. Tried this yesterday, but after installing the customer screensaver bin I still had defaults. Tried again today with fresh files and custom screensavers are working.

In my case I didn't need anything more than the vanilla process:
Copy jailbreak bin to root, update.
Copy screensaver bin to root, update.

No hotfix, no KUAL, no MRPI, no python (didn't need the features).
Simple as. Really great, simple hack guys!

Not surprisingly, the screensavers hack cannot extract covers from books in the new KFX format. However, I thought this note might save someone else from going nuts trying to figure out what's gone wrong as I did until I realized these were KFX books.

@ssholloway: If memory serves, it shouldn't even try to. Instead, it'll consider the last non-KFX book as the 'last' book opened.

If that's not how it actually behaves, that'd be a bug

It did use the cover from last non-KFX book as the screensaver so that's working as expected.

I had verbose mode on but if there was a warning that linkss couldn't extract the cover, I missed it.

That means there is no plans to make it work with kfx books in the future?

@Ruskie_it: Until more is known about the format. Right now I can't even say if it's even remotely a possibility.

Feel free to PM me the whole bunch of stuff that composes a KFX book and I can take a look.

Remember, KFX is a new format that's not been deciphered. So nothing yet works with KFX (except the new Kindle firmware).
